Job Description

The Network Switch Technician will perform system management, configuration administration, and routine maintenance for base communications systems (BTS). This role is responsible for end-to-end voice path integrity, managing switch configurations, handling number reclamation, and maintaining the VoIP data infrastructure.

Individuals must be able to attain and maintain a valid U.S. Government security clearance (Secret) in order to be retained in the position.

Duties & Responsibilities

Includes but not limited to the following:

  • Perform necessary software functions and translations for all trunks, circuits, and configurations requested by on-base systems or users.
  • Administer data lifecycle management, including the reclamation and reassignment of unused telephone lines.
  • Maintain an accurate, up-to-date master listing of all active telephone numbers and track the specific hardware type associated with each number.
  • Document and audit database configurations, circuit paths, and user profiles.
  • Manage the user and device databases for all network-connected VoIP telephones.
  • Plan and execute software/firmware changes, including systemic upgrades and emergency security patches.
  • Provide comprehensive maintenance up to the defined demarcation points—specifically the end instruments and the physical/logical ethernet ports of the voice switching equipment (including IP Media, IP System
  • Interface, and CLAN cards) for both host and remote switches.
  • Own, troubleshoot, and resolve system and user support requests routed through the REMEDY Trouble Ticket system.
  • Troubleshoot issues affecting customer telephone devices and voice delivery systems.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Must have a minimum four (3) years of experience with telecommunications industry services, solutions and trends
  • Experience to administer, maintain VoIP/Avaya phone systems
  • Individual must possess a current DoD 8140 certifications; such as CompTIA Security+
  • National Security background investigation required, Secret

Skill & Certification Requirements

SKILLS:

  • Voice Switching Architecture: Direct experience with host/remote voice switching systems, IP Media systems, IP System Interfaces, and CLAN cards.
  • Database Management: Proficiency in provisioning, altering, and auditing telco/VoIP database listings.
  • Ticketing Systems: Practical familiarity with REMEDY or an equivalent enterprise-level ITSM ticketing framework.
  • Protocols & Hardware: Solid understanding of VoIP deployment standards, SIP/H.323 signaling, and standard digital/analog trunk circuits.
  • DoD AF policies and regulations
  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts.
  • Strong and effective written and verbal communication skills coupled with excellent interpersonal and team skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.
