Job Description

Role: Test Engineer (Electromechanical and Embedded)
Type:
FTE, 1099 Transitioning to W2
Location:
Cleveland, Ohio – Onsite (Ohio City)
Eligibility:
US Permanent Residency is required for this position


The Test Engineer is responsible for designing, executing, and validating test protocols to support the development of Sonic Fire Tech (SFT) systems. This role plays a critical part in ensuring product performance, safety, and compliance by leading prototype testing efforts and contributing to the transition from R&D to production in a fast-paced startup environment.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum of 10+ years’ experience in test engineering, product validation, or related field
  • Experience with prototype testing and transitioning products from development to production. Preferred background in fire protection systems, life safety equipment, or similar regulated industries.
  • Experience testing electronic components and consumer appliance-type systems, including embedded or electromechanical products
  • Proficiency in data analysis, instrumentation, and test automation tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications
  • Familiarity with UL and FM certification processes, standards, and compliance requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of comprehensive test plans for prototype and pre-production systems, including functional, performance, environmental, and reliability testing
  • Design and implement test fixtures, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems for electronic components and integrated electromechanical products
  • Analyze test data, identify failure modes, and drive root cause analysis and corrective actions in collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams
  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to support design for testability and transition from R&D to production
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and safety standards, including UL and FM certification requirements; interface with external test labs and certification bodies as needed
  • Develop and maintain detailed test procedures, protocols, and technical reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient testing environment
