Job Description

Our innovation strategy is simple - We want to solve the challenges we have today as well as find answers to some of our industry’s bigger long-term challenges. Whether it's delivering water that is always good to drink, reducing waste in our processes with energy efficient technologies or improving visibility of the network, our 150+ strong team of innovators are working day in day out to make it happen. If you want to do more because you care, we’d love to talk to you. There really is something for everyone here.

With that in mind, we are looking for multiple Network Operability Specialists to join our Asset Planning (Waste Networks) Team. The base for this role is flexible and various ST locations will be considered, such as Coventry and Derby.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

In our role of Network Operability Specialist, you will support the Waste Networks Optimisation Lead, proactively improving the operational performance of the waste infrastructure and non-infrastructure asset classes and helping to drive the right solutions through to capital investment.

You will work closely with Customer Delivery, Asset Health & Performance, Tactical Planning, and a range of operational and technical teams to validate data, investigate issues, and determine the most effective intervention options. By applying your professional and technical expertise, you will monitor, evaluate, and optimise the performance of waste network assets.

A key part of your role is supporting the management of asset interventions to deliver strong customer service and ODI outcomes at the lowest whole-life TOTEX cost. Acting as the subject matter expert for your assigned county, you will provide insight on operability challenges, escalate risks into tactical forums, and represent the county in risk meetings with clear, evidence-based analysis.

You will lead and contribute to root cause analysis across waste network assets, including rising mains, pumping stations, and pollution investigations, ensuring both reactive and proactive issues are understood. Alongside this, you will help shape sustainable, cost-effective solutions that bolster resilience, reduce failures, and enhance performance, while also driving innovation by promoting new tools, technologies, and best practice across the business and wider industry.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

To be successful in this role, you will bring a strong understanding of waste networks, including hydraulics, asset behaviour and operational risks. You will also have experience analysing data and applying root cause analysis techniques to support structured, evidencebased investigations.

You’ll bring strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, along with a willingness to learn technical investigation methods, providing a solid foundation for work such as rising main and pumping station root cause analysis. As the subject matter expert for your assigned county, you can confidently represent your area in risk discussions, articulate issues clearly and back your views with well‑reasoned insight and sound judgement.

Alongside your technical capability, you’ll offer proven stakeholder management skills, building collaborative relationships across operational, tactical and strategic teams. You’ll communicate complex information in an accessible way, influence decisions constructively and facilitate productive conversations.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU

Working here isn’t just a job. You can build a career at Severn Trent. We’ll reward you for it, too. We have a range of benefits that recognise great work, and award-winning training to help you reach your potential. And we’ll also help you play your part in looking after the environment and the communities where we live.

With that in mind, here are just some of our favourite's perks that you’ll get being part of the Seven Trent family:

  • 28 days holiday + bank holidays (and the ability to buy/ sell up to 5 days per year)
  • Annual bonus scheme (of up to £2,250 per annum based on company performance)
  • Leading pension scheme – we will double your contribution (up to 15% when you contribute 7.5%)

About Severn Trent

Water is wonderful. Without it we’d be lost. With it, everything’s possible. For every toothbrush, for every loo flushed. For the hot showers, the cool drinks, the cups of tea. We’re Severn Trent, a diverse and amazing group of people who want to keep it that way. We bring you clean water and we take it away safely too. But it’s not just what we do. It’s how we do it: not just talking, but going over and above. Stepping up and rolling our sleeves up.

It’s because we care. Not only about our water but our corner of the country. And we care for our amazing people who make all this possible. Don’t just take our word for it; we’re a Glassdoor Top 50 Company – one of the best employers in the UK right now.

At Severn Trent, we do more, because we care.
