Job Description

About the Company

At Transgrid, we play a crucial role in delivering safe, reliable, and sustainable energy to millions of Australians. Operating over 13,000 km of high-voltage transmission lines and 134 substations across NSW and the ACT, we connect electricity generators to the distribution network powering homes, businesses, and communities. As Australia accelerates its energy transition, the work we do has never been more significant.

About the role

This is a rare opportunity to help shape how Australia's energy transition is delivered. As an Energy Transition Specialist, you'll work at the intersection of innovation, strategy and the power system, leading initiatives that unlock new opportunities for consumers and support a more flexible, efficient and sustainable energy future.

You won't inherit a finished system. You'll help bring a vision to life by solving complex challenges, influencing how new technologies are assessed and adopted, and shaping the future of Transgrid's network innovation agenda. This is first-of-its-kind work that will have a lasting impact on the energy system for decades to come

What you’ll do

  • Lead the development and delivery of Transgrid's Network Innovation Strategy.
  • Identify, assess and progress emerging technologies and innovative network solutions.
  • Drive strategic initiatives across demand management, energy storage, flexible loads and future network capabilities.
  • Partner with industry, research organisations, technology providers and internal experts to turn ideas into practical outcomes.
  • Influence decision-making through thought leadership, stakeholder engagement and evidence-based recommendations.

What you’ll bring

  • Experience delivering complex technical, strategic, commercial or regulatory initiatives within the energy sector or another infrastructure-intensive industry.
  • Strong understanding of emerging energy technologies, market developments and industry trends.
  • The ability to navigate ambiguity, solve complex problems and turn ideas into action.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to bring diverse perspectives together.
  • Qualifications in engineering, economics, commerce, data science, computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.

Why this role?

The energy transition doesn't happen in theory. It happens through the people who make it possible.

At Transgrid, you'll play a key role in shaping the future of Australia's power system, working on complex challenges that have real-world impact. You'll have the opportunity to influence industry thinking, explore new technologies and help deliver innovative solutions that support a cleaner energy future.

This is career defining work. Work that matters today and stands for decades to come

About Transgrid

We’ve ensured the smooth operation of over 11,517 km of high-voltage transmission lines and 136 substations and switching stations across NSW and the ACT, with interconnections to QLD and VIC.

Our most crucial work is leading the transition to Australia’s clean energy future. The traditional coal system that served our country for decades is nearing the end of its life, to be replaced by wind and solar generation.

We’re making the right decisions now to prepare for the opportunities and challenges ahead – a changing climate, population growth and technology innovation.

As we lead the way towards a more resilient future, we’re working closely with our customers and communities to make sure no one is left behind.

Wherever you are in NSW or the ACT, you can be confident in the reliable, affordable and sustainable electricity we transmit as we make a better power system for generations to come.
