Job Description

OVERVIEW

Our client is seeking an experienced Network Infrastructure Engineer to support the planning, design, construction, and deployment of telecommunications infrastructure across a large portfolio of facilities in the greater Phoenix area.

This position serves as a technical resource for structured cabling, fiber infrastructure, telecommunications spaces, pathways, and related low-voltage systems. The engineer will work closely with internal stakeholders, design consultants, construction teams, and technology partners throughout new construction, renovation, and infrastructure upgrade projects.

This is an engineering and project-focused role involving design review, construction support, field quality assurance, infrastructure deployment, and project turnover. It is not a cabling installer or traditional network operations position.

Contract-to-hire position

Hourly rate: $45-55/hour

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide technical guidance for structured cabling, fiber optic, and related communications infrastructure.
  • Review architectural, electrical, technology, and low-voltage drawings to ensure proposed systems meet organizational requirements and accepted industry standards.
  • Participate throughout the project lifecycle, from early planning and design through construction, commissioning, and turnover.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, general contractors, specialty contractors, facilities teams, project managers, and technology stakeholders.
  • Review construction submittals, shop drawings, product information, requests for information, and proposed field or design changes.
  • Conduct site surveys, field assessments, and construction inspections to verify installation quality and conformance with project requirements.
  • Assist with planning and expansion of both inside-plant and outside-plant fiber infrastructure.
  • Coordinate installation and deployment activities involving telecommunications racks, network equipment, wireless infrastructure, cabling, and related systems.
  • Support testing, commissioning, activation, and turnover of completed infrastructure to operational teams.
  • Maintain infrastructure standards, technical documentation, design guidelines, details, and project records.
  • Identify infrastructure risks, installation issues, and design conflicts and work with project teams toward resolution.
  • Support multiple simultaneous construction and infrastructure projects across different locations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience supporting structured cabling and fiber optic infrastructure within construction, renovation, or large-scale facilities projects.
  • Background in design review, construction administration, contractor coordination, field inspection, and quality assurance.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical, telecommunications, and low-voltage construction documents.
  • Working knowledge of telecommunications rooms, equipment spaces, building entrances, backbone pathways, and horizontal distribution systems.
  • Familiarity with Category 6/6A copper cabling, multimode and single-mode fiber, and associated telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of applicable telecommunications standards and industry best practices.
  • BICSI RCDD certification is strongly preferred.
  • Additional BICSI, FOA, manufacturer, fiber, or structured cabling certifications are beneficial.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working in active construction environments and conducting field inspections indoors and outdoors.
  • Ability to access telecommunications spaces and infrastructure such as equipment rooms, utility spaces, vaults, and underground pathways as required.
  • Ability to travel between project locations throughout the greater Phoenix area.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Telecommunications, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of professional experience and industry certifications.
