Position Network Infrastructure Engineer

Department Information Technology

Reports to: Head of IT Infrastructure

The Network Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing support of network and infrastructure services across Canucks Sports & Entertainment and Aquilini Group properties, including Rogers Arena.This role covers wired and wireless networking, next-generation firewall platforms (FortiGate and Sophos), VoIP and telephony systems, and Windows Server environments. Working closely with senior engineers and IT leadership, the successful candidate will contribute to infrastructure projects, security hardening, change management, and day-to-day operational support.The ideal candidate brings solid hands-on networking experience, a methodical approach to troubleshooting, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment that includes live event operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Network Engineer & Operations

  • Engineer, configure, and maintain Cisco-based infrastructure across LAN, WAN, and data center environments, including routing, switching, and security components
  • Deploy and support enterprise next-generation firewall solutions including FortiGate and Sophos, covering policy management, VPN configuration, firmware updates, and troubleshooting
  • Lead firmware upgrade planning and execution with minimal downtime and strict change management adherence
  • Monitor network performance and capacity proactively, identifying and resolving constraints before they impact operations or events
  • Support VoIP and telephony systems across the organization

Infrastructure & Security

  • Assist with implementation and ongoing support of Microsoft Server, Active Directory, virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V), and cloud services
  • Contribute to network security best practices including risk identification, security controls, and infrastructure hardening
  • Support network segmentation and firewall policy reviews in line with security standards
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, network diagrams, and asset inventory records

Collaboration & Support

  • Provide Tier 2/3 escalation support to Service Desk and Systems Administration teams
  • Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and external partners to drive issues through to resolution
  • Manage tasks and incidents through internal ticketing and work order systems
  • Participate in off-hours support within a 24x7 production environment, including event nights

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3-5+ years of hands-on experience in networking and switching environments
  • 3-5+ years working with firewall technologies; FortiGate and/or Sophos strongly preferred
  • Solid grounding in network fundamentals: DHCP, DNS, routing protocols, VLANs, and network topologies
  • Experience configuring and supporting routers, switches, and firewall platforms
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP
  • Industry certification at CCNA level or equivalent practical experience; CCNP considered a strong asset
  • Familiarity with virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across WAN, voice, security, and remote access technologies
  • Clear communicator able to work effectively across both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Self-motivated, accountable, and composed under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Availability for after-hours work, on-call rotation and travel as needed.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with FortiManager or centralized firewall management platforms
  • Exposure to multi-site or distributed enterprise environments
  • Experience with Meraki networking solutions
  • Familiarity with cloud networking: Azure, AWS, or hybrid environments
  • Experience with network segmentation, NAC, or zero-trust architecture
  • Exposure to large venue, hospitality, or event-based environments
  • Scripting or automation experience (PowerShell or similar)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related discipline
