Network Firewall Technician

Why should you apply? The Network Enterprise Services (NES) team manages an infrastructure spanning nearly 3,400 square miles, supporting IT, OT, wireless, and data center networks. NES oversees the reliability and performance of these networks while also handling communication security technologies, such as firewalls and VPNs.

This role requires a network professional with foundational knowledge of routing, switching, and cybersecurity. Primary responsibilities include reviewing, implementing, and troubleshooting network access and firewall policies, collaborating with customers to understand their needs, guiding them in identifying necessary information, and resolving access issues to ensure system functionality. Duties may also encompass configuring, installing, monitoring, and managing IT and OT access routers and switches, wireless controllers and access points, and network security devices across the organization.

What will you be doing?

  • Implement and enforce network access and firewall policies that control how users and systems connect to the network, helping maintain security and compliance
  • Guide users through network access and firewall policy procedures and requirements, as well as assist them in locating necessary information to ensure they are submitting requests correctly
  • Monitor and respond to customer support requests efficiently, ensuring that issues and tasks are addressed promptly and effectively
  • Develop and update documentation detailing network configurations, topology maps, and service histories for equipment
  • Diagnose and resolve issues that affect the reliability or overall functionality of the network to minimize downtime and service interruptions as needed
  • Handle the configuration, ongoing monitoring, administration, support, and performance improvements for all network hardware, software, and tools to ensure efficient and stable operations as needed

Please note that this position operates on a 24/7 on-call rotation schedule.

Who You Are:

  • Relevant experience with the implementation and troubleshooting of firewall configurations and other network security measures
  • You will most likely have 2 to 4 years of experience in IT, along with a foundational understanding of networking
  • Knowledge of and experience with Cisco and Palo Alto Firewalls is valued
  • Knowledge of and experience with Cisco ACI is valued
  • Possess a valid and unrestricted Driver's License

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Exerts 20-50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements exceed those for Light Work. Positions in this class typically require talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions within an office working environment.
