We are seeking a highly skilled Network Engineer III to join our Digital Technology Services (DTS) team at Deaconess Health System In this role, you will be responsible for the planning, design, installation, and configuration of local and wide area networks (LAN/WAN). As a key member of the team, you will ensure the security and performance of the enterprise network, while providing technical leadership and guidance on network-related projects.

The Network Engineer III is responsible for managing and optimizing the network infrastructure, including planning, configuring, and maintaining LAN/WAN systems. This role also involves diagnosing and resolving network performance issues, ensuring network security, and supporting disaster recovery planning for network components. As a senior-level engineer, you will provide technical leadership, share expertise with other engineers and staff, and contribute to the successful execution of network-related initiatives.

What You Will Do

  • Participate in the planning, designing, installation, and configuration of local and wide area networks.
  • Monitor network performance, servers, and other devices to proactively identify and resolve potential issues and bottlenecks.
  • Diagnose and resolve enterprise-wide LAN/WAN issues, ensuring minimal downtime and network reliability.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of network hardware and software licensing.
  • Utilize and maintain Help Desk tracking software to monitor and resolve support tickets efficiently.
  • Administer and maintain assigned network systems, providing technical ownership, service recovery, product security, and coordination with vendors.
  • Ensure network security, addressing recovery and redundancy issues.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced network engineers and IS staff.
  • Offer technical leadership for network engineering projects, ensuring successful implementation and meeting organizational goals.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of a comprehensive disaster recovery plan for network components.
  • Review and provide recommendations for network hardware and software standards to optimize performance and reliability.

What You Will Need

Education

  • Associate’s Degree in CIS/CS or a related field — Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field — Preferred

Experience

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in Network Engineering, with a strong background in LAN/WAN design, configuration, and management — Required
  • Experience with enterprise-level network environments — Preferred

Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of WAN/LAN protocols and network topologies.
  • In-depth knowledge of IP Networking, including DNS, SMTP, and DHCP.
  • Familiarity with the OSI model and network troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Experience with Router/Switch configuration, including managing network devices and ensuring optimal network performance.
  • Hands-on experience with ASA/Firewall configuration to secure network boundaries.
  • Ability to design, implement, and maintain complex network infrastructure
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills for diagnosing network issues.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide technical leadership in network engineering projects.
