The Role

The role focuses on voice, video, and data communications, including their
convergence across secure Defence networks, and supports LAN, WAN, and other
network environments within the capability baseline.
The position works under the direction of the Deputy Engineering Manager JP9101
and contributes to technical delivery, assurance, and contractor oversight in
accordance with Defence standards and IC3SPO engineering processes.

Responsibilities:

The Network Engineer JP9101 L3 Responsibilities include:

• Perform network engineering activities across voice, video, and data
  systems, including converged communications environments.
• Provide specialist advice on data communications, telecommunications,
  and network engineering within the EDHFCS context.
• Support the development and integration of secure, resilient Defence
  network architectures (LAN, WAN, and related environments).
• Contribute to capability and concept development activities for
  communications network elements of EDHFCS.
• Conduct requirements analysis, development, and allocation for network
  and communications systems.
• Ensure network requirements are traceable to system-level capability
  needs and operational use cases.
• Support network architecture and design.
• Review design documentation and specialist network engineering reports.
• Develop and review engineering artefacts.
• Ensure documentation meets Defence, contractual, and IC3SPO quality
  requirements.
• Provide engineering support to communications networks and associated
  systems throughout the project lifecycle.
• Assist in identification and management of technical risks, issues, and
  network performance concerns.
• Support cybersecurity and network hardening considerations in
  collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
• Review and provide technical input on contractor deliverables related to
  communications and network engineering.
• Engage with Defence stakeholders, industry partners, and other
  engineering disciplines to support integration outcomes.
• Participate in engineering reviews, design reviews, and technical working
  groups.
• All other tasks as directed.

About You

Qualification and Experience:

In addition to the defined responsibilities of the position, the following requirements
of this position are considered fundamental to the Network Engineer JP9101 L3:

• Be a Chartered Professional Engineer of a registered Professional
  Engineering Body (such as Engineers Australia) equivalent, or be able to
  attain chartered status.
• Tertiary qualifications in Network Engineering, Telecommunications,
  Computer Science, or a related discipline.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to work collaboratively and
  communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Experience in leadership and management roles, and an ability to coach
  and guide teams in the implementation of strategy and change.
• ASDEFCON Suite Experience.

The following requirements of this position are considered desirable to the Deputy
Engineering Manager JP9101 L3:

• Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CCNE or equivalent).
• Experience in Capability Projects in the Defence and/or CASG environment.
• Understanding of technical, logistical, and operational requirements in the
  delivery of capability, and knowledge of applicable Defence policy and
  legislation.
• Experience in managing cross-functional teams of diverse technical
  specialisations.

  capacity.
• Communicate effectively with line managers and Division Head, including
  consultation with them and taking appropriate direction from them.
• Communicate effectively with CASG’s Defence customers, supporting and
  other related elements of CASG, and Defence and industry partners.
• Employ best practice in the execution of work, focusing on achieving
  outcomes, ensuring that decisions are made by appropriately qualified and
  experienced persons, and taking judicious risks.
• Provide clarity on roles & responsibilities.
• Encourage transparency and truthfulness.
• Encourage collaboration and communication.
