The Executive Office of Technology Services and Security (EOTSS) is the state’s lead office for information technology. We provide enterprise level information technology services including network management and security; computer operations; application hosting; desktop provisioning and management; and modern and responsive digital services to 40,000 internal stakeholders plus the residents, business owners and visitors to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.EOTSS is seeking to hire a Network Engineer to join the EOTSS Network Engineering Team. The EOTSS Networking Engineering Team provides reliable Network Services and support to all Commonwealth of Massachusetts customers. The networking services provided by the team include network design, implementation, installation, and management. The Network Engineering Team is especially skilled in and specializes in complex routing configurations, wireless networking, and the use of Visio for creating diagrams in support of the infrastructure. The team provides 3rd Tier support to the Network Operations Team and routinely joins Major Incident conference bridges to help with troubleshooting incidents to their resolution.The Network Engineer will be mainly responsible for the configuration and implementation for a multi-vendor hardware network within a cloud-based environment. Additional responsibilities will be installing cabling and fiber infrastructure to support router and switch connectivity. The Network Engineer will also be responsible for upgrading Juniper equipment and software, including switches and routers. The Network Engineer will assist with the design and layout of site-to-site VPN tunnels on Juniper routers to provide secure connectivity and access to the Commonwealth data centers. The Network Engineer will provide 3rd Tier support to 2nd Tier Network Operations staff to resolve customer issues with critical response time requirements. The Network Engineer will need to be able to work independently for specific assigned tasks but will also need to work in a team environment. Other expectations of the Network Engineer will be attending training via remote learning or instructor led courses to further develop their skills.The primary work location for this role will be at 200 Arlington Street Chelsea, Massachusetts 02150. The work schedule for this position is Monday thru Friday, 9:00AM to 5:00PM. Travel, on-call, and weekend support required (staff are compensated per the Collective Bargaining agreement for stand-by pay and callback). This position would be expected to follow a hybrid model of reporting to work that combines in-office workdays and work from home days as needed.All offers of employment into this position are conditional and subject to passing: a Massachusetts Criminal Background Check (CORI); a security clearance (fingerprinting) consistent with IRS and/or public safety requirements; and security training. Responsibilities: Participate on Major Incident conference bridges to help with troubleshooting to resolution.Perform a written transition documents and procedures for the Network Operations team when new systems and hardware being deployed. This could include a transition meeting or training session with the Network Operations staff to ensure seamless transition into production.Attend bi-weekly status meetings and provide status updates to your Manager.Stay current with network and infrastructure technologies through various methods including online research, vendor hosted seminars and conferences, free online courses and paid courses paid by TSS.Assist with design and layout of site-to-site VPN tunnels to provide secure connectivity and access to the Commonwealth data centers.Collaborate with users, vendors, and other technical teams on the identification, isolation, and correction of problems as well as enhancements in the WAN/Core network.Consistently follows standard change management processes. Document and evaluate impact of required changes to the various networked systems. Plan, schedule and communicate changes.Assist with the design of complex Core and WAN networks, IP and routing summarization, includes configuring routers and switches.Assist with Design of router and switch QoS, ACL and traffic shaping configurations and implement them as needed.Create detailed Visio diagrams in support of network hardware deployments.Participate in design meetings with our vendor partners to discuss technology updates.Retrieve hardware quotes from resellers in support of procurement.Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Three (3) years of hands-on experience with configuring and implementing a multi-vendor hardware network (Juniper or Cisco) within a cloud-based environment.Three (3) years of hands-on experience and knowledge with configuring VPN tunnels on Juniper or Cisco Routers.Three (3) years of experience with network concepts including STP, VPC, MPLS, QoS, and VLAN design.Two (2) years of hands-on experience and knowledge with the following cloud computing platforms: Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS.Hands-on experience and knowledge with a variety of routing protocols including OSPF, BGP, IGRP, EIGRP, and RIP.Ability to do IP and routing summarization, includes configuring routers and switches.Knowledge of desktop operating systems and their networking functions.Knowledge and experience with configuring QoS, ACL and traffic shaping.Ability to create detailed Visio diagrams in support of network hardware deployments.Ability to follow standard change management processes. Document and evaluate impact of required changes to the various networked systems. Plan, schedule and communicate changes to be implemented.Ability to understand and follow sometimes-complex oral and written instructions.Excellent organizational, verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills with a high degree of attention to detailKnowledge and experience with Variable Length Subnet Masking (VLSM) and static routing.Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently on certain projects.Education and Certifications: Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, Information Systems, Business Administration or other related field, or equivalent work experience.Juniper Network Certifications: JNCIA or JNCIE.
