Summary

DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for maintenance and support of the York College campus wide network and its related systems including all telecommunications

OUTCOME:

A reliable and secure networking infrastructure to support all academic and administrative technology related functions

Examples of duties

• Work with LTS staff members to identify and address problems relating to the campus network 20%
• Provide support for the network access control system 10%
• Configure, monitor, and maintain the wireless network system 20%
• Configure, monitor, and maintain the wired network system 10%
• Assist in the configuration and maintenance of the campus firewall 5%
• Perform network equipment infrastructure inventory, support, administration and upgrades as directed 10%
• Maintain routing protocols on core switches and Internet routers 10%
• Perform basic system administration and account management on network support servers as directed 10%
• Perform low-level repairs and adds, changes and moves to campus communications and telephony systems as directed 5%

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or equivalent experience in a computer-related field required; Bachelor’s degree in a related field (i.e., Computer Science, Engineering, MIS) preferred
• At least four years of experience supporting networking and telecommunications infrastructures including wired and wireless networks
• Four years of experience with mobile devices and operating systems, including Unix/Linux, Windows and macOS
• Four years of experience administeringnetwork access control systems
• Four years of experience administering firewalls and VPNs
• Two to four years of experience with dedicated network devices such as gaming systems and other Internet appliances

Supplemental information

• Knowledge of operating systems, network/connectivity principles, file server technologies and computing environments including telecommunications systems
• Strong understanding of security principles as they apply to deploying and maintaining business-critical network infrastructure
• Ability to function in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
