As our Operations & Management Strategic Business Unit (O&M SBU) grows, we are looking to add a new member to our technology team! The O&M Network Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, installation, and maintenance of network infrastructure supporting remote locations across the United States, both remotely and on-site. This role ensures the reliable operation of network hardware, rapidly diagnoses and resolves technical issues, and protects both IT and OT environments through effective cybersecurity practices. The O&M Network Engineer maintains accurate documentation of network configurations, system changes, and issue resolutions to support operational transparency, continuity, and knowledge sharing. Additionally, the position contributes to the development of innovative solutions that improve the efficiency, reliability, and scalability of the O&M network infrastructure. Serving as a trusted technical advisor, the engineer communicates complex technical information clearly and effectively to O&M project teams and management. Above all, the role maintains a strong commitment to site safety and safe work practices.
The location for this role is flexible, and we are open to remote employment with the ability to travel as needed to our facilities across the country. Travel will vary between car and airline based on your location in relation to our projects. We anticipate up to 50% travel in this role. The travel requirements will fluctuate depending on project and client needs.
Design, configure, implement, install, monitor and maintain LAN, WAN, and WLAN infrastructure with a focus on cybersecurity and safety and operational efficiency in an O&M plant environment, ensuring network safety and performance.
Maintain and optimize networking systems applying in-depth technical knowledge to ensure efficient, secure, and reliable network performance.
Implement and enforce cybersecurity principles and best practices, with a focus on protecting networks and systems while ensuring compliance with organizational standards.
Monitor traditional, cellular and satellite network performance, capacity and security, identify potential issues, and provide solutions to ensure networks are operating efficiently.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues.
Maintain and update network documentation, diagrams, and procedures
Configure and implement networking technologies, including routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs and security protocols.
Communicate technical information in an easily understandable way to non-technical employees.
Update the IT ticketing and project management system with detailed notes regarding assigned tasks/resolutions.
Collaborate with other IT teams, vendors, ISPs and stakeholders to ensure network solutions meet business needs.
Keep abreast of the latest networking technologies/best practices, security, and trends.
May be involved in disaster recovery planning and implementation.
May participate in vendor selection and evaluation.
BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
A minimum of 5 years of hands-on network engineer experience.
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) required.
Deep understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS) and the OSI/TCP-IP models, hardware (Cisco, Pal Alto, Cradlepoint, Starlink, etc.) and network management/monitoring tools (Solar Winds, Wireshark, etc.).
In-depth understanding and practical knowledge of networking systems and hardware such as LAN, firewalls, routers, switches, access points, cybersecurity and principles and practices related to site safety.
Strong knowledge and understanding of cellular and satellite devices.
Excellent time management, communication, troubleshooting, problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and in team environment.
Ability to travel as needed for onsite network support. Up to 50%.
Ability to work after hours, weekends, and holidays if necessary.
Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) and/or Certified IS Security Professional (CISSP) highly preferred.
