The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) organization, Intelligence Systems portfolio, is seeking a Network Designer (Experienced, Senior or Lead) to join our Mission Operations team in Herndon, VA.
Our team focuses on delivering complex solutions in some of the most challenging environments on Earth. We provide support for our Mission Operations Portfolio area which design, build, test, deploy, operate, and maintain a wide variety of mission critical platforms and systems for commercial and government customers.
This Network Engineer position performs complex networking in a hybrid on premises/cloud environment with intricate networking requirements.
Position Responsibilities
Architect and maintain hybrid network connectivity between on-premise clusters and cloud environments, ensuring low-latency, high-bandwidth, and secure communication
Deploy and manage virtual networking components such as VLANs, VXLANs, VPCs, Transit Gateways, Direct Connect, and micro-segmentation and traffic isolation in a multi-tenant environment
Utilize monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch) to proactively identify and resolve network performance bottlenecks, latency issues, and packet loss
Configure and enforce security policies, including firewalls, security groups, network ACLs, and Flow policies, to ensure isolation and compliance with security best practices
Configure and troubleshoot multicast traffic, BGP, OSPF, and PIM for dynamic routing and efficient data distribution across the hybrid environment
Leverage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and CloudFormation to automate the provisioning, configuration, and management of network infrastructure
Design and maintain logical network segmentation to ensure isolation, scalability, and compliance with enterprise authorization and accreditation practices
Configure and test network failover mechanisms, including redundant Direct Connect links, cluster replication, and cross-AZ failover, to ensure high availability and business continuity
Work closely with cloud architects, administrators, and DevOps teams to integrate networking solutions with AWS services and containerized workloads
Create and update detailed network diagrams, runbooks, and operational documentation to support troubleshooting, audits, and knowledge transfer in a dynamic environment
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
This position requires an active TS/SCI U.S. Security Clearance and current FSP (Full Scope Polygraph) (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)
Level 3: 3+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience managing and maintaining physical (Cisco) and virtual networking devices
In-depth knowledge and experience with network segmentation and complex routing across networks
Advanced troubleshooting skills and problem-solving abilities and able to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues with critical thinking
Familiarity with cloud (AWS and/or Azure) and/or virtualization technologies such as VMware, Hyper-V, and/or Nutanix AHV
Experience with network automation tools in enterprise environments
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Level 4: 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Level 5: 10+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Associate degree or higher in a relevant field
Experience with automation tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and/or GCP
Certifications in Cisco networking

pay range for Senior (Level 4): $128,350.00 - $173,650.00
pay range for Lead (Level 5): $158,950.00 - $215,050.00
