About the role

Our internal Networks unit is responsible for designing, building and running the networks and technology platforms that BT, and our customers, rely on.
Across our fibre, mobile, Wi-Fi and core networks, BT is a connectivity powerhouse, leading the world in the adoption of converged, automated, programmable network technologies.
Bringing together network strategy, transformation, and the modernisation of our mobile and fixed network assets - along with direct partnering with Enterprise, Global and Consumer on leading edge, converged services and experiences – our Networks division designs, builds and runs the technology platforms that BT, and our customers, rely upon every day.

What you’ll be doing

• Define and agree IP network designs for the mobile core, in line with architecture and with operational and security requirements.
• Produce high quality design documentation; High Level and Low Level Designs.
• Liaise with vendors and suppliers to ensure delivery of solutions and alignment of roadmaps..
• Propose improvements to processes and technologies used.
• Provide technical consultancy at a platform and/or overall solution level to other teams and business units – this could be to any stakeholder within the business.
• Define test requirements and test strategy for new designs.
• Maintains standards for Mobile Core IP network infrastructure.
• Drives the implementation of core and cloud infrastructure security to manage risks and exposure.
• Undertakes routine daily activities and is accountable for system design, build, testing, validation, maintenance, and ongoing support of all network infrastructure components.
• Undertakes the implementation of new and enhanced network technology that aligns to customers’ strategic direction for enterprise and remote site connectivity.
• Manages the installation, testing, and setup of new network hardware both physical and virtual (firewalls, routers, switching, monitoring) hardware and software.
• Executes engineering efforts to ensue currency and supportability of networking technology.
• Participates in technology lifecycle planning, including contributing to the development of the technology roadmaps and Network Health Assessments.
• Delivers the required documentation, knowledge transfer and training to successfully land new solutions into the support organisation.
• Delivers support for clients with data protection and overarching cloud capabilities.
• Drives the implementation of core and cloud infrastructure security to manage risks and exposure.
• Provides support for problem escalations from the global network support organisation.
• Drives impact with a range of customer, operational, project or service activities within the Network Engineering team and other related teams.
• Mentors other Engineering professionals, helping to improve the team’s abilities by acting as a technical resource.
• Champions, continuously develops and shares with team knowledge on emerging trends and changes in Network Engineering.

• As someone in a more senior grade, you’ll have experience of coaching and able to support the development of other team members.
