Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Netcom’s Engineer to own the critical configuration and delivery of the Vehicle Specific Configuration Specification (VSCS) to Vehicle Operations Manufacturing Engineering (VOME). While this role is not directly based on the physical manufacturing floor, your technical expertise is the vital foundation upon which our plant-floor execution relies. You will need a deep, fundamental understanding of how the VSCS and the electronic Customer Acceptance Test System (eCATS) operate within the plant environment to ensure your data configurations are flawless. The Excel deliverables you manage directly dictate how vehicles are flashed and configured at the end of the line. Because a single data mismatch can halt production or lead to incorrect software deployment, your precision in configuring these network communication files has a direct, high-stakes correlation to first time through vehicle quality.

To excel in this role, you must possess outstanding intercommunication skills and the agility to thrive in a flexible work environment. You will serve as a key liaison between product development and VOME, translating complex vehicle software requirements into structured database deliverables. Manufacturing and launch timelines are fluid, meaning you must remain highly adaptable and ready to support our plant stakeholders when issues arise. When a configuration anomaly impacts the plant, you will need to quickly understand the stakeholders' immediate needs, communicate technical solutions clearly, and work flexibly to resolve the issue. If you are a methodical engineer who enjoys bridging the gap between product design and manufacturing readiness while maintaining a strong customer-service mindset for our plant partners, we look forward to your application!

Key Responsibilities:

  • VSCS Configuration and Delivery Management

You will own the end-to-end configuration, maintenance, and delivery of the VSCS Excel sheets and databases to VOME. You will ensure that this critical data is perfectly formatted and optimized for seamless integration with the plant’s eCATS, serving as the single source of truth for end-of-line vehicle programming.

  • Cross-Functional Coordination with D&Rs and Feature Owners

You will act as the central hub for configuration readiness. By proactively aligning stakeholders, you will resolve conflicting requirements and ensure that all engineering changes are fully prepared, validated and approved before they are scheduled for plant deployment.

  • Technical Advisory and Configuration Logic Guidance

As the resident subject matter expert, you will provide authoritative, technical guidance to engineering teams on how to design their software configuration and diagnostic logic. You will advise engineers and software teams on how to structure their data to be compatible with plant-floor diagnostic tools and manufacturing constraints. By coaching engineers on how to write robust, logical parameters, you will prevent downstream testing conflicts and ensure the configuration logic is clean, efficient, and easily executable by the eCATS system.

  • Technical Leadership and Stakeholder Alignment

Though this is an individual contributor role, it requires strong leadership and influence. You will lead cross-functional problem-solving efforts when database anomalies or software compatibility issues are identified. This involves managing relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders across Product Development and VOME. You will drive consensus during high-pressure launch phases, championing process improvements in how software configuration data is gathered, validated, and transferred to our manufacturing partners.

  • Quality Assurance and Risk Mitigation

You are the final line of defense for software data integrity before it reaches the assembly plant. You will establish and execute rigorous quality assurance protocols to validate the VSCS Excel deliverables. By performing deep-dive data audits and simulation checks, you will identify and rectify data mismatches, incorrect or faulty logic parameters. Your meticulous attention to detail directly prevents plant-floor issues, such as line stoppages, vehicle "bricks," or incorrect software flashes, directly safeguarding first-time-through vehicle quality.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Software, Information Systems, or 5+ years of relevant industry experience in product development or automotive engineering.

  • Experience in automotive electrical engineering, with a strong grasp of vehicle electrical architectures, multiplex communication protocols (such as CAN, LIN, and Automotive Ethernet), and diagnostic standards (like UDS/ISO 14229).

  • Proven experience working with VSCS and eCATS frameworks, paired with advanced database management skills.

  • You must possess advanced Excel capabilities (including complex formulas, software development languages, and data validation techniques) You must understand how configuration data translates into plant-floor diagnostic and flashing routines, ensuring that the files delivered to VOME are structured perfectly for eCATS execution.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical reviews, align diverse stakeholders, and communicate complex concepts clearly.

  • You will act as the central bridge between Product Development (Engineers, Feature Owners) and Manufacturing Engineering.

  • Experience designing, analysing, or troubleshooting complex configuration and diagnostic logic.

  • A meticulous approach to data integrity with experience establishing or executing rigorous quality control processes. You must have a proven track record of managing high-risk deliverables where precision is paramount.

  • Strong stakeholder communication skills; ability to influence without formal authority and align teams toward common release and validation outcomes.

  • Ability to interpret code and logs to aid in issue resolution.

  • Experience with defect management systems (e.g., JIRA) and documentation platforms (e.g., Confluence).

Personal Attributes

  • Strong written and verbal communication; detail-oriented with the ability to convey complex topics clearly.

  • Proactive, collaborative, and able to work effectively in cross-location teams.

  • Willingness to train others and share knowledge through coaching and sessions.

Nice-to-Have (Preferred)

  • Experience with software development in multiple languages.

  • Prior exposure to Ford-specific processes or diagnostic environments.

You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!
