Location: Central Coast/Newcastle

Working days: 7 days a week

Working hours: Part Time/Casual – Hours varied ranging between the hours of 6am - 10pm. We are looking for people with wide availability

About the role:

As a Direct Support Worker with Outlook, you will support people living with disability to build independence, achieve their goals and participate in their community. Working with clients who have physical, intellectual and psychosocial disabilities, you will provide personalised, person centred support that promotes choice, dignity and quality of life.

We currently have both Casual and Part Time opportunities available. We ask that applicants have broad availability; however, we are committed to offering flexibility and will work with you to accommodate your existing commitments.

This role includes hands on support for people with disability to live safely, independently and achieve their individual goals. You will provide personal care and daily living support, including assistance with showering, dressing, grooming, toileting, mobility and meal preparation. Depending on client needs, you may also support with household tasks, medication assistance, transport, community participation and social connection. You will work with people who have complex support needs, including implementing Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs), responding to behaviours of concern, applying positive behaviour support and

de-escalation strategies, and maintaining client safety and wellbeing. Every shift provides an opportunity to make a meaningful difference while supporting people to live life on their own terms.

What We Are Looking For

  • A caring, compassionate and respectful approach, with a genuine commitment to supporting people with disability.
  • Experience in disability support, aged care or a similar support role.
  • The ability to provide personal care and daily living support, including showering, dressing, grooming, toileting, mobility assistance, meal planning and preparation, medication assistance, household tasks, transport and community access.
  • Ability to provide person-centred support to people with diverse and complex needs, including implementing care plans and Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs) to promote safety, wellbeing and positive outcomes.
  • Experience supporting clients to achieve their individual goals, build independence and participate actively in their community.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with clients, families and colleagues.
  • Reliability, professionalism and the ability to work independently.
  • The ability to maintain accurate, detailed and timely case notes and service records.
  • Smartphone and basic digital literacy to access schedules, complete required forms and training, and maintain accurate case notes using mobile apps.
  • The physical capability to meet the demands of the role, including personal care, manual handling, mobility assistance, domestic duties and supporting clients in community based activities.

Successful Applicants Will Have and/or Undertake Before Commencing

  • National Police Check.
  • Current NDIS Worker Screening Check.
  • Current NSW Driver's Licence and reliable transport to travel between client services (travel reimbursement applies).
  • Comprehensive motor vehicle insurance.
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
  • (preferred) Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability, Ageing or equivalent) and/or relevant industry experience.
  • Smartphone and basic digital literacy to access schedules, complete required forms and training, and maintain accurate case notes using mobile apps.

The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) has been providing outstanding care for Victoria's children and their families for over 147 years.

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.

With a passionate, highly skilled and committed staff campus wide of over 5,000, we provide a full range of clinical services, tertiary care and health promotion and prevention programs for children and young people.

We are the designated state-wide major trauma centre for paediatrics in Victoria and a Nationally Funded Centre for cardiac and liver transplantation.
