Job Duties Include:

• Maintaining primary and secondary roads using heavy equipment, taking care to minimize and prevent erosion.
• Removing debris and low hanging limbs and ensuring culverts are in good working order.
• Assisting with the application of gravel.
• Conducting agricultural operations.
  • This includes, but is not limited to: planting, fertilization, herbicide application, mowing, and management of wildlife openings and dove fields according to assigned schedules.
• Assisting with fire management within Unit 1D.
  • This includes, but is not limited to: maintaining equipment, grading fire lines, identifying and managing snags, implementing controlled burns, identifying spot-overs, and post-burn mop up.
• Maintaining shop in a safe, neat, and organized manner.
• Assisting with the maintenance and upkeep at the Sassafras Observation Tower.
• Marking property boundaries as needed.
• Identifying and treating/removing exotic and/or invasive species within Unit 1D.
• Collecting habitat and/or biological data as requested.
  • This includes but is not limited to: dove and black bear hunts, scent line surveys, and mast surveys.
• Conducting/assisting with trapping efforts for nuisance species.

Examples of duties

A high school diploma and two (2) years of related experience in wildlife, fisheries or agricultural work; or an associate degree in the technical sciences.

Qualifications

Familiarity with forest management techniques, prescribed fire techniques and heavy equipment operation. Experience transporting equipment and making minor repairs. Ability to operate hand tools, shop tools, chain saw and ability to weld. Ability to work alone in remote mountainous terrain. Ability to work early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and in adverse weather conditions as necessary.
