Natural Gas Scheduler
Relocation assistance to Colorado Springs will be provided to the successful candidate.
If you have experience working in finance, scheduling, or trading, this is the opportunity for you! Our Fuels and Purchase Power team is hiring a Natural Gas Scheduler to schedule, route, and confirm natural gas usage transportation, storage, and peaking contracts on various pipelines. You will support our traders through overseeing the logistics and physical movement of natural gas to ensure contract fulfillment and our organization's ability to provide natural gas to our customers.
Please note that this position operates on an on-call rotation for weekends and holidays to manage the overall long/short positions via all available tools.
What Else Will You be Doing?
- Monitoring natural gas storage and collecting market intelligence impacting transportation and storage
- Assisting with monitoring market price volatility on cash and futures markets
- Monitoring and maintaining fuel/coal inventory positions at storage tanks, racks, and mines - this includes managing tankage based on stockholder capacity and ratable demand
- Discussing and sharing relevant market and/or operational information with the team to support commodity buying and selling
- Collaborating with traders to align scheduling activities with trading strategies, supply positions, and market dynamics
- Contacting counterparties for nominations details, changes, and any performance issues
- Analyzing forecasted demand relative to the existing supply portfolio and adjusting the supply portfolio through market/storage balancing
- Monitoring transactional postings by interstate pipelines
- Collaborating with the day-ahead and real-time trader, interstate pipelines, gas control, and counterparties
- Continually studying and building knowledge on the dynamics of gas flow on pipelines
- Maintaining knowledge of rights and obligations for Colorado Springs Utilities' gas supply, transportation contracts, and pipeline tariffs - and applying this knowledge to the nomination process to ensure compliance with contract obligations and optimize the use of contract rights
- Maintaining accurate records of volumes, movements, and transactions for fuels, coal, and natural gas
Who You Are
- Experience in a finance, trading, or scheduling capacity
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field is valued
- Experience using energy trading risk management (ETRM) systems and related analytical software products
- Knowledge of natural gas/coal/propane and diesel marketing principles
- Familiarity with applicable regulations including FERC, NAESB, and NCC
- Ability to analyze and evaluate complex technical data
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Exerts up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a small amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those required for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a small amount, a job should be rated Light Work when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree or when it requires sitting most of the time, but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls and/or when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is small. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding work even though the amount of force exerted is negligible. Positions in this class typically require talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions within an office working environment.
