The
Natural Areas Trails and Visitor Amenities team is looking to hire a year
round, part-time crew member (29 hours per week). This position performs a wide
variety of tasks including: trail and fence construction, repair, and
maintenance; trash and litter removal; vault toilet cleaning; installation of
signs; vegetation management such as mowing, weed whipping, and weed control;
and other maintenance activities on natural area sites of varying size and
composition.
This position will be expected to work 29
hours/week year-round, two 10-hour days and one 9-hour day. Scheduled Wednesday-Friday. Occasional
weekend coverage or evening shifts may also be necessary.

provided with insurance or retirement benefits.
Supervision Received: Receives supervision from the Natural Areas Trails and Visitor
Amenities Supervisor with field guidance from Natural Areas Sr Coordinator and
Technicians
Supervision Exercised: May oversee volunteer groups of varying sizes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties
and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position
and are not intended to be all inclusive:
-Constructs and maintains soft surface trails;
-Removes trash and litter from natural area sites;
-Cleans vault toilets;
-Constructs and repairs kiosks, sign frames, fences,
boardwalks; Installs signs, benches, and other structures;
-Controls vegetation through mowing, weed whipping,
cutting, and spraying herbicides
-Assists with gravel parking lot grading operations
including use of heavy equipment;
-Operates, maintains, and performs minor repairs on
equipment and vehicles such as mowers, trucks, sprayers, water pumps, etc;
-Provides support for volunteer projects and may oversee
volunteer groups of varying size;
-Work with integrity and maintain a safe work
environment;
-Perform other related work as assigned.
EQUIPMENT
USED Various
motor vehicles such as pickup trucks, small dump trucks, trailers, etc.
Also operates specialized equipment such as mowers, rollers, weed whips,
etc. May require use of various power and manual tools as needed to
perform all aspects of the job such as rakes, saws, drills, wrenches,
etc. Job will require the occasional use of standard office equipment,
including computers.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School or
general education degree (GED); college-level course work in natural resources
or related field preferred. College course work and volunteer experience
may substitute for work experience. Must be at least 18 years of age.

rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure
manuals.
-Ability to write routine reports and
correspondence.
-Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers
or fellow employees.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply
common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written,
oral, or diagram form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Current
Driver's License.
PHYSICAL
DEMANDS: The

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to
stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or
crawl. The employee is frequently required to sit, reach with hands and
arms, carry, talk, hear, and traverse uneven surfaces and terrain. The
employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, twist, push, and
pull. The employee must have manual dexterity to operate tools and motor
and manual vehicles. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to
25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift
and/or move up to 100 pounds.
WORK
ENVIRONMENT: The
work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an
employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly exposed to
moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions, sometimes severe in
nature. The employee will be expected to work on natural areas sites
inhabited by rattlesnakes and sites containing prairie dogs that may be
infected with plague. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or
airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The noise
level in the work environment is usually loud. The employee will, on
occasion, be required to work in high, exposed locations.
