Help shape the future of New Zealand’s AML/CFT system

The Department of Internal Affairs (Te Tari Taiwhenua) is seeking an experienced Programme Manager to lead the delivery of the AML/CFT National Strategy Programme. This is a unique opportunity to help improve New Zealand’s financial integrity and security.

About the role

As Programme Manager, you’ll ensure the integrity, coherence and strategic alignment of the AML/CFT National Strategy Programme. You’ll establish and maintain a structured programme environment, oversee multiple projects, and drive initiatives that strengthen New Zealand’s AML/CFT regime. Your leadership will enable effective change and deliver tangible outcomes for the country.

What you’ll do

  • Develop and manage the overarching programme plan, governance structures, and reporting frameworks.
  • Lead programme delivery, ensuring projects meet scope, time, and budget requirements.
  • Build strong relationships with internal teams, external stakeholders, and partner agencies.
  • Provide strategic advice to senior leaders and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Oversee risk management, financial controls, and quality assurance across all workstreams.

What we’re looking for

  • Proven experience managing complex project or programmes in government or regulatory environments.
  • Strong knowledge of programme management methodologies (e.g., MSP) and financial oversight.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to drive results across multi-stream programmes and foster a high-performance culture.
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field and/or programme management certification (desirable).
