The National Quality Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring Modern Niagara’s projects and fabrication operations consistently meet contractual requirements, industry standards, and ISO 9001 quality management principles. Acting as a trusted partner to project, construction, engineering, and manufacturing teams, this position develops Project Quality Plans, inspection and test plans (ITPs), quality documentation, and quality controls that help drive successful project execution while reducing risk, defects, and rework.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Contract and requirement interpretation: Review contracts, specifications, drawings, scopes of work, schedules, and submittals to identify quality obligations, inspection and testing requirements, documentation deliverables, and turnover expectations.
• Translate contractual and specification requirements into practical tools such as requirement matrices, checklists, registers, inspection planning tools, and turnover readiness trackers.
• Project quality planning: Develop, maintain, and support Project Quality Plans aligned with contractual commitments, project scope, internal standards, applicable codes, and ISO 9001-based quality management principles.
• Develop inspection and test plans (ITPs), quality control plans, and inspection criteria for manufacturing and construction scopes.
• Support project teams in implementing quality requirements across installation, inspection, testing, commissioning support, turnover, closeout, and records management.
• Quality documentation and technical writing: Author clear, well-structured quality documents such as plans, procedures, SOPs, checklists, registers, and guidance - that teams can readily understand and apply.
• Review documentation, inspection records, and closeout packages for completeness, accuracy, and alignment with contractual and specification requirements.
• Maintain accurate records of quality activities, inspections, and certifications, and prepare concise summaries and status updates for project and leadership teams.
• Audits, gap tracking, and continuous improvement: Conduct light audits, readiness assessments, and structured reviews of Project Quality Plans and related documentation to confirm completeness and implementation.
• Track quality plan gaps, findings, and action items through to timely, evidence-based closeout.
• Non-conformance and shop quality support: Support the non-conformance (NCR) process across project and fabrication scopes - identifying and documenting non-conformances, coordinating disposition, tracking corrective action, and verifying closeout - while working with shop and manufacturing teams to reinforce quality at key fabrication and inspection points.
• Support root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that reduce rework and defects.
• ISO 9001 and certification support: Apply ISO 9001 knowledge to support gap assessments, audit preparation, evidence gathering, corrective action tracking, management review inputs, and ongoing certification readiness.
• Support national standardization of project quality templates, tools, checklists, and guidance in collaboration with regional quality teams.
• Collaboration and stakeholder support: Coordinate with quality teams, project managers, operations leaders, field teams, and subcontractors to integrate quality requirements early in planning and execution.
• Use project platforms and digital tools to support document control, communication, and records traceability; Procore experience is considered an asset.

Must-haves

• Education: Post-secondary education in engineering, quality, construction, project management, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience: Typically, 3–7 years of experience in quality assurance, quality control, project quality support, or documentation control.
• Some project experience: developing or reviewing Project Quality Plans, inspection and test plans (ITPs), checklists, registers, or requirement matrices.
• Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and experience supporting certification activities, internal audits, gap assessments, corrective actions, or QMS implementation.
• Shop and fabrication knowledge: General understanding of shop and fabrication processes (e.g., sheet metal, ductwork, HVAC/air handling, piping/pipe spool, or similar manufacturing operations), including shop drawings, work orders, material handling, in-process and final inspection points, and how quality is reinforced on the shop floor.
• Technical skills: Ability to interpret and understand contracts, specifications, drawings, procedures, standards, and inspection requirements, and translate them into quality obligations.
• Strong technical writing skills such as being able to produce clear, well-organized quality plans, procedures, and documentation with minimal rework.
• Non-conformance (NCR) processes: Working understanding of non-conformance management, including identifying and initiating NCRs, documenting deficiencies, supporting disposition decisions (rework, repair, use-as-is, scrap), tracking corrective action, and verifying closeout, along with related quality tools such as ISO-based management systems, inspection planning, RCA, and CAPA.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Travel: Must be available and willing to travel through project sites around the GTA.

This is a new position, and the salary range is between $75,000 - $90,000
