National Health Safety & Environment Manager | Queensland

Lead Safety. Drive Change. Make a Difference.

We are seeking an experienced and influential National HSE Manager to lead the safety and environmental functions for an established and growing manufacturing business with installation / construction operations across Australia.

This is a senior leadership opportunity for a practical, people-focused safety & environmental professional who can build strong relationships, challenge the status quo and drive meaningful improvements across the organisation.

You’ll have the opportunity to shape the National safety & environmental strategy, strengthen systems and processes and influence operational leaders across multiple sites.

The role is based in Queensland and will involve some National travel.

About the Role

Reporting to the business’ General Manager, you will work with the leadership team and support the National Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) function.

You’ll work closely with operational leaders, site managers and frontline teams to ensure safety and environmental management is embedded into the way the business operates.

You will guide and support HSE aspects for the business’ construction operations.

We’re looking for a hands-on safety leader who enjoys being on site, working with people, understanding the business operation and finding practical improvements.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Learning the business before ultimately assisting develop the National HSE strategy, take ownership the HSE systems and recommend improvements
• Provide HSE support across multiple manufacturing sites
• Partner with site and operational leaders to assist them improve HSE outcomes
• Build strong relationships with employees, managers and senior leadership across the business
• Identify workplace hazards and help teams to effectively manage their risks
• Lead incident investigations and suggest corrective actions as applicable
• Monitor and report HSE performance, trends, incidents and key indicators
• Conduct site based HSE audits, inspections and reviews
• Maintain and continuously improve HSE policies, procedures and systems
• Support sites in building risk assessments, Safe Work Method Statements and other safety documentation
• Develop and deliver training and awareness programs as applicable
• Promote a strong and united HSE culture
• Support workers and managers in understanding their HSE obligations
• Oversee workers compensation costs, injury management and return to work processes in line with Group policies and procedures
• Work with external regulators, consultants and other safety stakeholders when required
• Lead approved improvement initiatives across the National HSE function
• Help in the execution of HSE requirements for all new projects, new equipment / machinery and operational changes
• Provide sound advice and a consistent approach for the business’ HSE team

To be successful, you’ll also have:

• Significant experience in a senior HSE management role, with responsibility across National operations
• HSE experience within both manufacturing and construction industries
• Experience supporting multiple sites in a geographically dispersed workforce
• Detailed knowledge of Australian regulatory requirements in related disciplines
• Experience operating and improving business HSE management systems
• Strong incident investigation and risk management skills
• Experience with audits, inspections and compliance programs
• Excellent communication skills
• Flexible people skills
• A practical, hands-on approach to HSE management
• Strong analytical and reporting skills
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, or related disciplines
