Job Description

The National Director of Safety serves as a key member of the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) leadership team and is responsible for translating the Company’s safety strategy into consistent execution across field operations nationwide. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Safety, this role provides leadership, coaching, and oversight to regional and project safety teams while partnering closely with operations leaders to integrate safety into planning, logistics, scheduling, and project execution.

This position plays a critical role in driving consistency, accountability, and continuous improvement across the organization by ensuring company standards, systems, and expectations are effectively implemented in the field. This position requires a highly collaborative leader who understands construction operations and can influence behaviors at every level of the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide leadership, direction, coaching, and performance oversight to regional and project safety leaders, ensuring consistent execution of safety programs across all operations.
  • Conduct regular field engagements to evaluate program effectiveness, identify operational risks, and reinforce company expectations.
  • Ensure consistent implementation of company safety policies, procedures, and standard operating practices.
  • Monitor safety performance across projects and regions, identify trends and gaps, and drive corrective actions to improve consistency and operational effectiveness.
  • Drive trade partner development through planning, preparatory meetings and documentation aligning our project teams and trade partner leadership.
  • Support significant incident investigations and ensure lessons learned are communicated and incorporated across the organization.
  • Champion initiatives that strengthen leadership and field engagement, workforce training and safety culture through the organization.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify processes, improve efficiency, and strengthen the overall effectiveness of the safety program.
  • Partner with operational leaders to integrate safety into project planning, logistics, scheduling, and execution activities.
  • Foster a culture where safe execution is embedded in how work is planned, communicated, and performed.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, professional experience, and military service will be considered.10+ years of progressive safety leadership experience supporting construction operations.
  • Experience leading safety programs across multiple projects, regions, or business units.
  • Strong working knowledge of construction operations, project delivery processes, and risk management principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior operational leaders and drive organizational changes.
  • Experience developing, coaching, and leading high-performing teams.
  • CSP or SMP required.
  • Ability to travel nationally as business needs require.
