Reporting to the Vice President, Public Affairs, the National Director of Internal Communications leads communications that engage and inform team members, residents, patients and families across all Extendicare divisions, including long term care, ParaMed and head office.
This strategic leader shapes and evolves internal communications across the organization, balancing front-line realities with business priorities to deliver clear, meaningful and impactful communications that bring our purpose, mission, vision and values to life.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative, skilled communicator who can lead a high-performing team, build strong relationships across the business and deliver practical, people-focused communications that support care, connection and change.
This position is based out of our Head Office located in Markham, Ontario. Extendicare offers a hybrid working environment.
Responsibilities:
Lead and evolve internal communications strategy to strengthen engagement and connection to Extendicare’s purpose, mission, vision and values.
Oversee the planning, development and delivery of communications for employees, residents, patients and families across multiple divisions and channels.
Manage and coach a small team while partnering across Public Affairs and the business to deliver consistent, high-quality communications and support issue management.
Optimize communication channels and support change initiatives, including growth, integration and other organizational priorities.
Use data, judgment and new tools, including AI, to improve efficiency, effectiveness and audience experience.
Qualifications:
7–10 years of experience in corporate or internal communications, ideally in health care or another complex, multi-site environment.
Proven experience leading people, coaching teams and partnering with senior leaders to drive organizational priorities.
Exceptional plain-language writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex issues into clear, audience-appropriate communications.
Strong judgment, critical thinking and adaptability, with the ability to manage competing priorities and sensitive issues in a fast-paced, issue-driven environment.
Experience leading communication strategies that support change, engagement and business transformation.
Comfort with a range of communication tools and platforms, including Microsoft 365, and openness to using AI to enhance efficiency and quality.
Degree in communications, journalism or a related field, or equivalent experience.
