Job Description

National Commercial Manager

Defence. Government. Major infrastructure. Special hazards. Fuel storage. Corrections and justice. Healthcare and hospitals. Major civic assets. Endfire Engineering delivers fire protection systems in the environments where getting it right matters.

We are not a small contractor doing standard work on repeat. Endfire is an Australian-owned specialist fire protection contractor with more than 26 years of history, a project footprint across Australia and New Zealand, and a full in-house team with the capability to deliver complex turnkey fire protection projects from start to finish.

We are growing fast, aiming high and building the capability, systems and people behind complex fire protection projects across Australia and New Zealand. This Commercial Manager role will be central to supporting that next stage of growth.

About the Role

As the National Commercial Manager, you will report directly to the Director and play a key role in strengthening the commercial performance of Endfire’s project portfolio.

This is a full-time role initially based in Brisbane, with flexibility to consider candidates across Endfire’s operating locations. It is suited to someone who understands major projects, contracts, risk, negotiation and delivery pressure. You will work closely with leadership, project teams, clients, contractors and internal stakeholders to help ensure commercial decisions are clear, well-managed and aligned with successful project delivery.

Over time, this role also has the potential to help train others, build internal commercial capability and support the future development of Endfire’s commercial function.

The Environment You’ll Step Into

This role is not for someone looking to sit on the sidelines. Endfire is moving quickly, growing with purpose and taking on complex, high-consequence work that demands sharp thinking, strong follow-through and real commercial discipline.

You’ll be joining a driven team with high standards, strong momentum and a genuine commitment to what we are building. We are ambitious about where Endfire is heading, but that ambition is grounded in loyalty, capability and long-term commitment. Some of our people have been with us since the early days, and that says a lot about the culture we are continuing to build: fast-paced, committed, supportive and serious about doing work that matters.

This is a role for someone who is energised by growth, complexity and accountability. Someone who can keep pace, bring clarity, and help strengthen the commercial backbone of a business aiming high.

Why This Role Matters

Endfire operates in sectors where fire protection is part of a broader safety, compliance and operational resilience framework. Our projects include high-risk and complex environments such as defence aviation facilities, underground transport infrastructure, live hospitals, fuel facilities, government assets and public infrastructure.

Strong commercial management is critical to that work. It helps projects stay controlled, risks stay visible, decisions stay informed, and teams stay focused on delivering safely, professionally and commercially.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and support commercial management across major fire protection projects.
  • Review, manage and advise on contract terms, project obligations, commercial risk and claims exposure.
  • Work closely with project managers and senior leaders to monitor project performance, margin, variations, progress claims and commercial outcomes.
  • Support tender, negotiation and contract review processes for complex project opportunities.
  • Review and contribute to contract departures, commercial positions, negotiation documentation and risk allocation.
  • Support claims, variations, extensions of time, procurement, subcontractor engagement and dispute avoidance strategies.
  • Coordinate with external legal advisers, insurers or brokers where required on complex contract, claims, insurance or risk matters.
  • Strengthen reporting, governance and commercial controls across the project lifecycle.
  • Help identify risks early and work with teams to resolve commercial issues before they escalate.
  • Build strong working relationships with clients, contractors, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams.
  • Train, guide and support internal team members as commercial capability grows.
  • Contribute to the future development of Endfire’s commercial function and commercial management practices.

What We’re Looking For

  • Tertiary qualifications in construction management, quantity surveying, engineering, law, business, commerce or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in construction, engineering, infrastructure, building services or a related project delivery environment.
  • Proven experience in commercial management, contracts management, quantity surveying, project commercial roles or similar.
  • Experience working in construction, infrastructure, engineering, services, fire protection or a related project environment.
  • Strong understanding of contracts, variations, claims, risk, reporting and project financial performance.
  • Confident communication and negotiation skills.
  • Sound judgement, attention to detail and the ability to work across multiple stakeholders.
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach with the confidence to challenge, advise and support project teams.
  • The ability to operate in a growing business where systems, people and project delivery are continuing to mature.
  • A driven, resilient and accountable mindset.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience with major projects, Tier 1 contractors, government, defence, healthcare, infrastructure or other high-compliance environments.
  • Exposure to fire protection, building services, mechanical services or specialist subcontracting.
  • Legal qualifications or substantial legal-commercial experience in construction contracts.
  • Familiarity with project systems such as Procore, Aconex, Bluebeam or similar platforms.
  • Experience working with external legal advisers, insurers or brokers.
  • Experience mentoring operational teams in commercial awareness and contract discipline.

Why Endfire

Endfire has grown into a nationally recognised specialist fire protection business with a substantial national pipeline of major infrastructure projects which is backed by a full in-house team.

We are special hazard experts, but more than that, we are a business building long-term technical depth, stronger systems and a serious national footprint. If you want to bring your commercial expertise into a company working on projects that are bigger, more complex and more meaningful than standard construction delivery, this is a strong opportunity.

To Apply

If you are commercially sharp, confident around contracts and risk, and ready to contribute to a specialist contractor delivering major fire protection projects across high-consequence environments, we would like to hear from you.
