National Advisor

Part-time (0.6FTE) | 6 Month Fixed term | Hybrid | Melbourne- based preferred

Speech Pathology Australia (SPA) is the national body representing over 16,000 members in the speech pathology profession. SPA supports and regulates the ethical, clinical and professional standards of its members as well as lobbying and advocating on behalf of all Australians living with communication and swallowing difficulties.

SPA has an exciting opportunity for experienced and knowledgeable National Advisor to contribute to the advancement of the profession through high‑quality member services, resource development, and strategic initiatives. Reporting to the Manager, Member Advancement, this role plays a vital part in supporting members, enabling reflective practice, and driving initiatives that strengthen professional capability across the sector.

About the role

As National Advisor, you will:

• Respond to at least 90% of advisor enquiries via phone and email within 48 hours of allocation.
• Accurately log and maintain all enquiries (including members, non‑members, and the general public) in the iMIS database.
• Liaise with relevant National Office employees to discuss enquiry themes and share emerging or relevant information to support cross‑team collaboration.
• Review, maintain, and update existing resources within agreed timeframes.
• Successfully manage the execution and completion of identified projects within agreed timeframes.
• Prepare and provide enquiry statistics, themes, and trend insights for inclusion in reports.

About you

You will bring:

Essential Criteria  

• Certified Practising Speech Pathologist (CPSP) with a minimum of 5 years’ experience.  
• Demonstrated knowledge of Speech Pathology Australia’s guidelines and professional standards and Code of Ethics. 
• Demonstrated a strong interest in professional practice. 
• Strong understanding of professional practice and the role of a national peak body 
• Ability to apply subject matter knowledge, guidance and insights to inform strategic objectives. 
• Experience with quality systems and processes. 
• Highly developed written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.  
• Capacity to demonstrate and promote SPA’s values, including ethical and culturally safe practice.  
• Proven ability to manage projects effectively, including planning, coordination, and adherence to timelines. 

Desirable Criteria

• Strong plain-English and proof-reading skills.  
• Postgraduate qualifications
