The Opportunity:

CACI is looking for a Space Vehicle Avionics and Software Test Lab Engineer to work with NASA’s Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV) Test Labs in support of our Nation’s space exploration initiative at NASA /Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. Candidates should have great interest in spacecraft vehicles and systems, enjoy working with software, and most of all, possess a great passion to contribute to our Nation’s exploration of space.

This position involves learning Software Only Crew Exploration Vehicle (CEV) Risk Reduction Analysis and Test Engineering Simulator (SOCRRATES/SOC) and OrionSim to the point of helping develop test scripts, efficiencies in deployment, providing hands-on technical support for integration into other facilities. The individual will help build malfunction scenarios for training for future missions. You will help provide enhancements and defect resolution to the SOC architecture including graphics, audio, and mission specific simulation model data updates.

This position requires a self-motivated, capable person with strong verbal and written communication skills. In addition to outstanding technical expertise, the individual must be very people savvy, have strong customer relationship skills, possess a positive team-player attitude, be flexible and willing to take on new assignments and responsibilities as they arise, and be an articulate speaker able to communicate complex technical ideas in a convincing manner. The individual must share our passion for our Nation's Space Program and share in the excitement of developing the next human-rated space vehicles.

Responsibilities:

  • Learn the details of Orion SOCRRATES and Simulation Software including how to configure and execute test runs and generate new test scripts.
  • Provide technical support to Orion SOCRRATES/Sim users for issues that arise, including software defect investigation and develop solutions.
  • Providing support for integration of SOCRRATES/Sim into NASA labs as needed.
  • Build new malfunctions in software to support training on future missions following the Orion software development and testing process.
  • Building other enhancements including Sim graphics, audio, mission-specific Sim model data updates, following Orion software development and testing process
  • Provide support for configuring, executing, and monitoring SOC mission scenarios in the NASA Mission Evaluation Room (MER).
  • Participate with the Prime Contractor as part of a joint support team.


Qualifications:

Required:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident for access to USG facilities.
  • B.S. in Aerospace, Electrical, Computer or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related disciplines required.
  • At least two to three years of related experience in human spaceflight rated software and systems.
  • Experience with Linux, Python, and scripting.
  • Experience with Integration and Software Development including C++.
  • Experience with real-time Simulation and Interfaces frameworks and architectures.
  • Must be flexible, open to new challenges in a dynamic environment, and possess strong technical expertise combined with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with little supervision.
  • Self-motivated and willing to dive in and learn (e.g. can review code/implementation without complete documentation to help)
  • Must be a highly responsible, team-oriented individual with strong work ethic.
  • Must have highly developed coordination and organization skills.


Desired:

  • M.S. in Aerospace, Electrical, Computer or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.
  • Experience in software development for human-rated space vehicles, e.g., Space Shuttle, International Space Station, Commercial Crew Vehicles, or Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV).
  • Experience developing or using Software only Crew Exploration Vehicle (CEV) Risk Reduction Analysis and Test Engineering Simulator (SOCRRATES) and Orion Simulation.
  • Experience with OS/Comet and CCL scripting.
  • Vehicle-wide knowledge of space vehicle systems, e.g., avionics, commanding, telemetry, command and control, crew life support, displays, power, propulsion, thermal, guidance, navigation and control, communications and tracking, NASA Docking System, etc.

There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. The proposed salary range for this position is:
