Job Description

Employment Status Part-Time Temporary (Substitute As Needed)

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Schedule Saturday, Sunday Masses and Holy Days of Obligation (Approx 1-3 Masses per week)

Reports to Pastor

The Musician will be responsible for performing music at various parish services, including Sunday Vigil Mass and may be contracted to perform at weddings, funerals and other liturgical events as necessary. The Musician will be responsible for animating the Sunday Liturgy and providing the musical environment. Musician is included in the rotation on an as needed basis, with no set schedule.

Must have demonstrated experience with various instruments specifically; piano, organ and/ or guitar.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides musical support to prayerful environment
  • Assists Pastor and/ or Director of Music and Liturgy in securing other instrumentalists as needed
  • Continuously maintains professional and liturgical education through reading, workshops, classes etc.
  • Is available to perform at special events including weddings, funerals and other events as needed

Additional Responsibilities

  • Attend all Archdiocese required training and meetings on Liturgy and Music
  • Attends Parish staff meetings as necessary
  • Actively participates in all “required” attendance Parish events as directed by Pastor and/ or Director of Music and Liturgy

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • High School degree or equivalent
  • Ability to sing with accurate pitch and rhythm
  • Ability to play various instruments (Piano/ Organ/ Guitar preferred)
  • Basic understanding of Music Theory
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with all levels of staff and management

Preferred Additional

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music, Liturgy and/ or 2 prior years’ experience
  • Previous experience/ knowledge of Roman Catholic Liturgy including Lectionary and Sacramentary
  • Bilingual (English/ Spanish) preferred
