How You’ll Make an Impact

You’ll provide individualized music therapy services that help students work toward meaningful educational goals. You will:

  • Understand each student’s needs. Conduct music therapy assessments to identify strengths, needs, and how music therapy may support educational progress.
  • Make findings meaningful. Share assessment results and recommendations with parents, educators, and district personnel through clear, compassionate communication.
  • Develop purposeful interventions. Collaborate with the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team to create individualized music therapy interventions that support goals such as communication, engagement, social interaction, and self-regulation.
  • Provide direct services. Deliver individual or group music therapy as outlined in students’ IEPs, adapting interventions to their needs, preferences, and responses.
  • Use data to guide services. Collect and analyze progress data, maintain accurate documentation, and use findings to inform therapy planning and IEP reviews.
  • Advocate and collaborate. Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) meetings, parent conferences, and team discussions to coordinate support and help students apply skills across educational settings.

What You’ll Bring

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher, with completion of an American Music Therapy Association (AMTA)-approved music therapy degree or equivalency program.
  • A current Music Therapist–Board Certified (MT-BC) credential through the Certification Board for Music Therapists.
  • Knowledge of music therapy assessment, individualized intervention planning, IEP implementation, and progress monitoring.
  • Strong musical, clinical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • A thoughtful, adaptable approach that respects each student’s strengths, preferences, and support needs.
  • Experience providing music therapy to children or students with disabilities is preferred.
