Position: Elementary Music Teacher

Location: Milford Elementary Schools

Reports To: Principal

Starting Date: August 2026

Note: All staff are hired by Milford School District rather than a specific building. While this opening is currently at the location listed above, final placement is subject to change based on district staffing needs. The building assignment is to be determined.

of the Position: The Elementary Music Teacher provides engaging, standards-based music instruction that fosters creativity, musical appreciation, and performance skills in all students. This position creates an inclusive learning environment where students develop vocal, instrumental, and artistic expression while supporting the social, emotional, and academic growth of every learner. The teacher collaborates with staff, families, and the community to promote music education through classroom instruction, performances, and school-wide events.

Qualifications:

  • Hold or be eligible for a valid Delaware Music Teacher Standard Certificate in accordance with 14 Del. C. § 1563

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned music instruction for all assigned elementary students through expressive arts classes.
  • Foster students' musical knowledge, creativity, performance skills, and appreciation of diverse musical genres and cultures.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the individual learning needs and abilities of all students.
  • Develop and maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment that supports student learning and appropriate behavior.
  • Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments aligned with district curriculum and instructional goals.
  • Evaluate student progress in musical knowledge and performance, maintaining accurate records in accordance with district policies.
  • Direct elementary choir programs across assigned grade levels, including rehearsals and at least one annual performance.
  • Support choir performances and other musical events that may occur outside the regular school day, including school and community functions.
  • Select, organize, maintain, and inventory musical instruments, instructional materials, and equipment.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and staff to support student success and school-wide initiatives.
  • Provide music for school performances, ceremonies, and special events as assigned.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues regarding student progress and performance opportunities.
  • Maintain a safe learning environment by exercising appropriate care of students, facilities, instruments, and instructional resources.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional learning, committees, and other required school and district activities.
  • Implement Board policies, administrative regulations, and district initiatives while supporting the district's mission and instructional goals.
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning to strengthen instructional practices and music education expertise.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or district administration.

Terms of Employment: Ten-month (10) full-time employee.

Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated annually according to the Board's policy on professional personnel evaluation.
