Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula (BGCP) proudly stands as the largest expanded learning provider in San Mateo County, dedicated to empowering 6,700 TK-College students across 30 sites from East Palo Alto to Daly City. The Music Studio Engineer will run and oversee the music and recording elective and curriculum for high school students at our Redwood City Clubhouse. You will guide and instruct teens on how to make and record music, how to properly operate and handle sound equipment, and understanding the basic techniques on sound engineering. You will also have opportunities to create and lead music and audio/video projects that simultaneously help accomplish BGCP’s goals and objectives. Additionally, you will regularly review key music production concepts and techniques with the teens to ensure they continue to build upon their skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee music recording and production projects, events, and classes at the clubhouse
  • Conceptualize, design, and teach classes that have high youth appeal
  • Be ready to provide instruction in-person at the clubhouse or adapt lessons and curriculum for virtual instruction
  • Responsible for maintaining sound equipment and resolving technical problems
  • Agree to watch 8-12 videos directed and produced at BGCP that speaks to our standards.
  • Responsible for maintaining the BGCP standard while recording appropriate language music choice. (No profanity, body shaming, racial slurs, hate messaging)
  • Collaborate with other BGCP staff to identify themes and key objectives for each project cycle
  • Support recruitment of students to participate in music recording and production
  • Support the management and job training of teen staff (in collaboration with other BGCP clubhouse team members)
  • Execute a final project/presentation in a showcase format
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings that advance organizational goals
  • Provide transportation to students to/from outings and events
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 6-12 months of music programming related experience using Logic Pro and/or Pro tools.
  • Strong interest in learning all aspects of music programming.
  • Strong interest in music and pop culture
  • Good public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to interact and work with staff at all levels.
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to interact and work with 9th-12th grade teens.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to project professionalism in person and recording music tracks.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to take initiative and to follow through on projects.
  • Creative writing ability.
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and task-switch, and work under shifting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must understand the importance of using, recording and sampling appropriate lyrical tracks – that exclude profanity, racial slurs and/or body shaming.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; and some stooping, kneeling, bending at the waist, reaching overhead, crouching, squatting, and/or crawling. The role also requires significant fine finger dexterity and near vision acuity. The position may occasionally involve lifting or carrying objects up to 25 pounds. Generally, the job requires approximately 20% sitting and 80% walking or standing. The work environment noise level is typically moderate but may occasionally be louder. All requirements are subject to reasonable accommodations.

Academic Calendar Schedule

Monday - Friday 2:30 pm - 7:00 pm (20 - 25 hours/week)

Summer Schedule

Monday - Friday 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Employment Status: Part Time-Non Exempt
  • Pay Range: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour depending on experience (DOE)
  • Retirement Benefits: BGCP offers contributions to the 401(k) plan
  • Sick Time: Part-time employees accrue sick time at a rate of 1 hour for every 20 hours worked, and may use up to 40 hours per year

As part of the hiring process, BGCP requires candidates to complete a LiveScan fingerprinting, background check, and tuberculosis (TB) evaluation or test.
