Mission Statement

Oversee the growth and strategy of The Salvation Army pertaining to music lessons within the Southern California Division. Implementing and monitoring programs for the purpose of musical growth and evangelical outreach. Focus on building instrument lessons, local ensembles, and music literacy around the division.

Essential Functions

  • Create educational resources for local music leaders
  • Work with the Divisional Music Director to develop and implement division-wide music curriculum
  • Maintain music department social media sites, create content, and make regular posts
  • Assist with coordinating special ensembles for public events when needed and requested by leadership
  • Keep an up-to-date appraisal of the music programs at each corps across the division
  • Work with Multimedia department to create online training and video resources for local music programs
  • Keep up to date on CCLI information and supply updated information to corps
  • Visit corps on a regular basis to develop and encourage local leadership: serve as a resource; available to guest and provide special music at services, meetings and camp events.
  • Identify the needs of corps music programs and work with corps in developing plans/programs to meet these needs
  • Serve as a member of the Divisional Music Committee
  • Assist with all department events, including but not limited to Encore Competition, Music Camp, Rose Parade etc.
  • Provide instrument lessons/classes at local corps as needed
  • Guide and train new local music leaders
  • Assist with coordinating and Participate in the Divisional Christmas Ensemble
  • Attend up to two Corps per quarter, as assigned by DHQ, on a Sunday morning as a representative of the Divisional Leaders.
  • Adhere to and support all child safety, protect the mission, and sacred boundaries standards and requirements of the organization
  • Effectively manage time and stay on-task and within policy guidelines
  • Related duties as assigned

Working Conditions

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, copier and telephone. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or 4 years equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated excellence as a music leader.
  • Music Teaching Experience
  • Commitment to the mission, vision, and worship philosophy of The Salvation Army.
  • Valid CA Driver's License.
  • Uniformed Salvationist required.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Skilled musician specializing in Brass, Vocal, or percussion with proficiency in other instruments
  • Skilled in organization, administration, and interpersonal relationships.
  • Familiar with audio-visual equipment for use as needed.
  • Skilled with video editing software
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Ability to work with individuals of all ages.
  • Ability to use MS Office.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Great communication skills.
