Your Role: Music Programming Assistant

As a Music Programming Assistant at Global, you’ll help make sure our music-led radio brands sound their best every day. You’ll support the Group Music Team to schedule, prepare and deliver accurate, consistent and compliant music output that reflects each brand’s strategy and audience.

As a Music Programming Assistant at Global, you will:

Key Responsibilities

  • Music scheduling & playout accuracy (40%) Support the creation, preparation and delivery of accurate music schedules across Global’s music-led radio services, ensuring high standards of accuracy, consistency and compliance.
  • GSelector & playlist management (35%) Use GSelector to manage music categories, clocks, rotations and playlists in line with agreed programming strategy, helping to optimise flow, variety and audience appeal.
  • Cross-team coordination (15%) Work closely with music schedulers, programming and production teams to ensure music logs are delivered on time and any issues are identified and resolved quickly.
  • Service development & improvement (10%) Help maintain database accuracy (metadata, coding, categories and rules) and contribute ideas to improve scheduling workflows, playlist flow and overall listener experience.

What Success Looks Like

In your first few months, you’ll have:

  • Built a strong understanding of Global’s music brands, scheduling priorities and programming objectives.
  • Supported the accurate scheduling and preparation of music-led services with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Developed confidence using GSelector and related systems to manage playlists, categories and rotations effectively.
  • Established strong working relationships with the Group Music Team and key programming stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated a clear understanding of brand sound, music policy and compliance requirements.
  • Suggested practical improvements to scheduling workflows or playlist management processes.

  • Attention to detail A meticulous approach to schedules, metadata and rules so output is accurate and consistent.
  • Planning & time management Ability to work to strict deadlines and manage competing priorities in a live broadcast environment.
  • Communication & teamwork Clear, professional communication and a collaborative approach with colleagues across music, programming and production.
  • Technical & system skills Strong understanding of GSelector for music scheduling, including categories, clocks and rotations.
  • Editorial judgement A solid understanding of music policy and how to apply it to support brand strategy and compliance.
  • Resilience & positivity A self-motivated, proactive attitude, with the ability to stay calm and solutions-focused under pressure.
