Job Description

*** Part- Time, Pay Rate: $25.00 Per Hour***

Primary Purpose: Provide instruction for camp attendees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for teaching and overseeing weekly instruction for summer camp/seasonal programs.
  • Teach Corps music programs which include brass band, singing company and music theory.
  • Leads the children’s band for events, such as Christmas in July, and others as required.
  • Ensure an ensemble of children play at least twice at kettles during the Christmas season.
  • The position is required to attend the Children’s Music Camp, which takes place during the summer.
  • Responsible for providing leadership for all music programs at the Siouxland Salvation Army camp.
  • Driving is an essential function of this role.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required. Must have experience in musical teaching of brass bands and children.

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.

  • Ability to be flexible and able to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
  • Basic computer skills with ability to access payroll, timekeeping and personal data via a web-based system.
  • Entry level Microsoft Word and Excel skills, and the ability to access data systems via a web-based system.
  • Administrative skills to include utilization of standard office equipment, data entry, 10-key, attention to details and filing.
  • Good English language communication skills both written and spoken, and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters
  • Attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Strong independent judgement.
  • Able to work effectively with minimal supervision.

Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire, as established by The Salvation Army.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Physical requirements include good speaking, hearing and vision ability and excellent manual dexterity. Ability to stand, bend and reach for extended periods of time, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment. May need to climb, balance. Kneel, crouch or crawl. This position will be required to lift and carry up to 40 pounds occasionally, standing, walking, and climb stairs, as well as the ability to drive to local and divisional events.

Working Conditions: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. At times, the employee will be required to load/unload instruments and additional equipment into a truck or van. The employee will spend 10-14 days working outside during the summer at camp. The work environment will vary between office, classroom, and camp. The noise level at times may be loud.
