Job Description

St. Mary of the Assumption in Upper Marlboro is seeking either a part-time or full-time Music Director to provide accompaniment and direct the various choirs for Masses in collaboration with the Pastor and other Parish Staff. The ideal candidate will be a practicing Catholic in good standing with a proficient knowledge of the Roman Catholic Liturgy. This candidate should be proficient with skills in singing and playing the organ and/or piano.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and execute musical programs for Sunday Liturgies, Holy Days of Obligation, and other occasions as well as special events including, but not limited to, funerals, weddings, and other celebrations.
  • Select appropriate hymns in conjunction with the pastor which are reflective of the liturgical season and the readings of the day.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and conduct weekly choir rehearsals.
  • Demonstrate an aptitude and willingness to cultivate the musical skill of current and new volunteer singers and instrumentalists.
  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of the Music Ministry’s sound system and sound mixer.
  • Coordinate in conjunction with the Pastor and the necessary service technicians, any routine or non-routine maintenance of the church organ and piano.
  • Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings.
