He angitūtanga: The opportunity

New Zealand Maritime Museum Hui Te Ananui a Tangaroa is a treasured part of Tātaki Auckland Unlimited and an anchor of Auckland’s vibrant waterfront. We share the stories that have shaped Aotearoa’s maritime heritage and welcome visitors from across Aotearoa and the world.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and customer-focused Museum Assistant to help us deliver high-quality visitor experiences and make the Museum an accessible, welcoming place for all. This is a hands-on, multi-tasking role working in a flexible and supportive team environment.

In this position you will contribute to the Museum’s daily frontline operations, from greeting visitors and supporting ticketing, to assisting with retail, events, public programmes, and administration. Every day brings something different, and you will play an important part in creating memorable experiences for our diverse audiences.

This is a permanent, part time role, working 18 hours per week over Frid, Sat and Sundays.

You will bring a warm, confident presence and genuine commitment to outstanding customer service. You enjoy working with people of all ages and backgrounds, can keep calm under pressure, and thrive in a busy visitor-facing environment.

You will also be a strong communicator, a problem-solver, and someone who enjoys being part of a collaborative, supportive team. Experience in customer service, tourism, heritage, retail, or hospitality is highly valued.

To guide you further, our ngā whakaritenga (job requirements) are:

  • Flexibility to work weekends, public holidays and evenings.

  • Satisfactory police vetting and working with children checks.

  • Experience handling cash is an advantage.

  • Experience working with children or delivering activities is desirable.

Band C $60,216 per annum
