Course Number and Name: MUS4231/2HAdvanced Vocal Repertoire Study I & II
Course Description:This course is a practical study and performance of advanced solo vocal music in a private coaching and master class format. The repertoire will be chiefly selected from Lieder, Mélodie, and art song, but will also include orchestral songs and arias. The choices will be made in collaboration with the student, applied music teacher, and vocal coach. Emphasis will be placed on effective interpretation and communication, including musical, interpretive, stylistic, performance, and language/diction considerations. Independent repertoire choices and audition preparation will be expected in the second-year course.
Class Schedule: Mondays 2-4pm in the Winter term
Months of contract: January to April 2027
Salary: $4,998.74

Qualifications: Graduate degree in performance, doctorate preferred. Active performing career combined with extensive knowledge of vocal repertoire in multiple languages and styles. Demonstrated excellence coaching singers in vocal repertoire at the university level.
Duties: Define course objectives; prepare course materials; provide clear guidelines on course requirements and regulations; teach classes as scheduled; administer and evaluate student assignments; prepare and submit final grades in accordance with policy. Maintain reasonable hours of student consultation outside scheduled class hours.
