Job DetailsJob Location: The Kinkaid School - HOUSTON, TX 77024Position Type: Full TimeJob Category: 1.TeacherThe Middle School Spanish teacher is responsible for creating a supportive learning environment and instructional program that results in students meeting their potential and achieving academic success. Reporting to the Head of Middle School and in support of the Department Chair, the Middle School Spanish Teacher promotes high levels of learning in an engaging and effective manner using various teaching methods and curriculum resources for students in grades 5-8.

The Kinkaid School is a co-educational, nonsectarian day school enrolling over 1,500 students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. The student body is divided into the Lower School (PreK - 8th Grade), the Middle School (5th grade - 8th grade) and the Upper School (9th grade - 12th grade). Located on a sixty-five-acre campus in the heart of Houston, Texas, the Kinkaid offers a thriving intellectual community in the midst of a vibrant, urban, and diverse culture.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach 4 sections of beginner and/or intermediate level Spanish for 7th and/or 8th grade
Act as an advisor for a small group of 10-12 students
Develop and implement instructional plans, activities, and assessments that actively engage students in meaningful learning experiences
Work collaboratively with subject teaching partners, the Grade Level Team, the World Language Department, and administrators to foster a positive student learning experience
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis
Maintain an accurate record of student attendance and grades
Provide students with timely feedback and keep parents or guardians informed of students’ academic and social/emotional progress
Participate in grade-level team, department, and divisional faculty meetings
Assist in assessing changing curricular needs offering suggestions for improvement
Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and the community
Set performance goals and engage in a cycle of professional growth and development.
Exemplify Kinkaid’s four core values of honesty, responsibility, respect, and kindness while striving to share joyful interactions with all members of the community
Fulfill additional responsibilities as requested by the division head. Additional responsibilities include supervisory duties, serving on a school committee, and leading a club
The candidate may consider coaching a sport contingent upon the interest and skill set, as well as the School’s needs
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Spanish or an academic discipline (Masters degree preferred)
A minimum of three years of experience teaching Spanish, preferably to middle school students
Significant successful leadership experience in independent schools
Applied experience demonstrating knowledge of the developmental characteristics and reach-based practices for effective instruction for middle school learners
An educational philosophy consistent with the mission of the School
Strong writing, speaking, and organizational skills
