Job Description

Davidson College is seeking a motivated Campus wide Moves/Special Events Supervisor to lead a dynamic team responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of campus moves, event setups, and special logistics operations. This hands-on leadership role ensures that furniture, equipment, and event materials are transported and installed efficiently while upholding exceptional customer service and safety standards.

The Supervisor will work closely with faculty, staff, vendors, and multiple departments to coordinate daily schedules, manage resources, and deliver seamless support for both routine operations and high-profile campus events.

Key Responsibilities

Supervision & Leadership

  • Lead, motivate, and supervise the Moves/Special Events crew to ensure high morale and productivity.
  • Assign daily tasks, create schedules, and prioritize workloads based on campus needs.
  • Train staff in proper lifting techniques, equipment use, and safety protocols.
  • Foster a “safety-first” culture, ensuring OSHA compliance and proper use of PPE.
  • Step in and assist with physical tasks when needed, especially during staff shortages.

Operational & Logistical Support

  • Coordinate and manage the movement of furniture, supplies, and equipment across campus.
  • Oversee setup and breakdown of special events, including interpreting setup diagrams and ensuring accuracy.
  • Ensure vehicles (box trucks, pickups, golf carts) are properly operated and maintained.
  • Communicate with vendors and oversee equipment/furniture deliveries.
  • Track inventory and ensure proper care and storage of materials and tools.

Administrative & Technical Duties

  • Use Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) to maintain daily logs, work orders, and event schedules.
  • Track crew hours and adjust schedules as necessary to maintain optimal efficiency.
  • Coordinate with departments and stakeholders to schedule moves and special projects.
  • Maintain detailed records related to equipment usage, setups, maintenance, and staffing.

Physical & Hands-On Responsibilities

  • Perform physical labor such as lifting, pushing, squatting, and moving loads of 50 lbs or more.
  • Support floor care operations as needed (stripping, waxing, carpet extraction – preferred).
  • Ensure all assigned tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to satisfaction.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Some College (Preferred)
  • 3–5 years of supervisory experience in facilities, logistics, custodial operations, or a related field or equivalent.
  • Experience coordinating moves, event setups, or project-based logistics preferred.

Technical & Professional Skills

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Knowledge of floor maintenance equipment and procedures (preferred).
  • Ability to read diagrams and follow detailed instructions for setups.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Work involves both indoor and outdoor environments and may include working in varying weather conditions.
  • Regular physical activity required, including bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, and standing for extended periods.
  • Must be available to coordinate or cover weekend and emergency work, including evenings and holidays as needed.
  • On-call availability is required for urgent campus support.
