Examples of duties

What You'll Do

As a Motor Vehicle Specialist II, you'll do more than process transactions. You'll use your experience and judgment to help customers, support your coworkers, and strengthen our operations.

Be the Expert

  • Independently process complex title, registration, and motor vehicle transactions.
  • Research and resolve complicated situations involving titles, ownership, liens, taxes, and registration requirements.
  • Interpret and apply Colorado motor vehicle laws, regulations, and procedures.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource when coworkers encounter unfamiliar or challenging transactions.

Help Others Succeed

  • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to Motor Vehicle Specialist I employees.
  • Share your knowledge and help build confidence and accuracy across the team.
  • Support onboarding and the continued development of new employees.
  • Model professional, solution-focused customer service.

Keep Things Running

  • Help coordinate daily workflows and respond to changing customer service demands.
  • Assist with escalated customer concerns and identify practical solutions.
  • Support financial processes, transaction accuracy, and quality control.
  • Identify opportunities to improve procedures, reduce errors, and make work more efficient.

What Success Looks Like

We want our Specialist II employees to be confident, dependable, and capable of working independently while supporting the success of the entire team.

You'll know you're successful when:

  • Coworkers trust your knowledge and feel comfortable coming to you for guidance.
  • You can independently research and resolve complicated transactions.
  • Your work is accurate, organized, and completed with accountability.
  • You recognize when something needs attention and take initiative to address it.
  • You help create a positive, collaborative environment where employees learn and grow.
  • You contribute to an efficient office that provides accurate, timely, and professional service to our residents.

What We're Looking For

Technical Knowledge

You understand Colorado motor vehicle title and registration processes and can apply that knowledge to situations that aren't always straightforward.

Problem-Solving Skills

Customer Service

You can explain complicated information clearly, remain professional in difficult situations, and help customers understand their options.

Teamwork and Accountability

You take ownership of your responsibilities, communicate effectively, and understand how your work contributes to the success of the entire division.

Essential Required Tasks/Examples of Duties:

  • Independently process, research, and resolve complex Colorado motor vehicle title and registration transactions in accordance with state laws, regulations, and division procedures.
  • Maintain required State of Colorado certifications and proficiency in DRIVES and related operating systems.
  • Serve as a technical resource to Motor Vehicle Specialist I staff, providing assistance with transactions, state requirements, and division procedures.
  • Conduct transaction audits to ensure accuracy, compliance, and identify areas requiring correction.
  • Process and monitor e-services, insufficient funds (NSF), 30-day holds, returns, and other assigned administrative functions.
  • Perform end-of-day balancing, financial reconciliation, deposits, and required reporting on a rotating basis.
  • Research and resolve title, registration, and financial discrepancies in coordination with the Department of Revenue, other agencies, and internal departments.
  • Assist residents, dealerships, financial institutions, and businesses with title and registration transactions through in-person, telephone, and written communication.
  • Maintain accurate records, safeguard confidential information, and follow established financial and operational procedures.
  • Support daily division operations, including transaction processing, inventory accountability, and office opening and closing procedures.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current year DRIVES Core21 Compliance Certification required at the time of hire.

Experience

  • Two years of experience in motor vehicle operations required.
  • One year of experience in a clerical or customer service field, or performing similar duties and responsibilities, preferred.
