Examples of duties

This position supports the statewide vehicle safety inspection program by auditing stations, reviewing records, and ensuring compliance with required laws and regulations. It helps maintain program integrity through careful evaluation, detailed reporting, and collaboration with inspectors and law enforcement. As a Motor Vehicle Program Inspector, you will perform the following duties:

  • Station Audits: Conduct administrative, investigative, and covert audits of approved inspection stations
  • Record Review: Examine station documentation to verify proper use of certificates and compliance with regulations
  • Fraud Detection: Identify potential violations or fraudulent activity and report findings to management when necessary
  • Training Evaluation: Review safety and emissions training schools to ensure approved curriculum and proper instruction

  • Technical Guidance: Provide information on safety inspection requirements and assist inspectors in understanding rules

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Overtime required as needed
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience in an automotive repair related field such as: service writer/advisor; technical manual writer; automotive tool and equipment salesman/serviceman; auto mechanic; or auto shop foreman and a high school diploma; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must possess a Class C non-commercial driver's license.
  • This position requires possession of a Pennsylvania Certified Inspection Mechanic Certificate.
  • This position is assigned to Mifflin or Franklin Counties. The selected candidate must reside in one of the assigned counties or surrounding counties or be willing to relocate to this area.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
