Motor Hanger / Rub Rail Technician

$18 - $22 per hour, DOE

Sea Fox Boats is seeking a skilled and dependable Motor Hanger / Rub Rail Technician to join our production team. This position is responsible for installing outboard motors and associated rigging components, as well as installing and finishing rub rail systems on fiberglass boats.

The ideal candidate has strong mechanical ability, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently while maintaining Sea Fox Boats' standards for quality, fit, finish, and safety. Marine, boat-building, rigging, or automotive mechanical experience is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Motor Hanging & Rigging

  • Install outboard motors on boats according to production specifications and manufacturer requirements.

  • Position and secure motors using proper lifting equipment and safe handling procedures.

  • Install motor mounting hardware, brackets, steering components, controls, cables, hoses, and related rigging components.

  • Route and secure wiring, rigging tubes, hydraulic lines, fuel lines, and other connections as required.

  • Verify proper motor alignment, mounting height, positioning, and overall installation.

  • Assist with connecting and routing electrical and mechanical systems associated with the outboard motor.

  • Inspect completed installations for proper fit, secure connections, and potential defects.

  • Use hand tools, power tools, torque wrenches, drills, and other production equipment safely and correctly.

  • Follow torque specifications and installation procedures to ensure proper and consistent assembly.

  • Identify and report damaged, missing, or incorrect components before installation.

  • Perform adjustments and corrections as needed to ensure the finished product meets quality standards.

Rub Rail Installation

  • Measure, cut, fit, and install rub rail systems on fiberglass boat hulls.

  • Properly position rub rail around the hull while maintaining consistent alignment and appearance.

  • Install rub rail using appropriate fasteners, adhesives, heat, and hand/power tools.

  • Make clean and accurate cuts at corners, joints, and termination points.

  • Ensure rub rail is securely attached and properly seated against the hull.

  • Inspect completed rub rail installations for gaps, waves, misalignment, loose sections, or other imperfections.

  • Perform necessary adjustments, repairs, and refinishing to achieve a clean, professional finish.

  • Protect finished fiberglass surfaces from damage during installation.

Quality & Production Responsibilities

  • Inspect work throughout the installation process to ensure quality standards are consistently met.

  • Complete work accurately and efficiently while maintaining production schedules.

  • Follow documented work instructions, blueprints, specifications, and supervisor direction.

  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation.

  • Properly care for tools, equipment, materials, and production boats.

  • Communicate shortages, quality concerns, damaged components, or production issues to the appropriate supervisor.

  • Work cooperatively with rigging, electrical, fiberglass, and other production departments to complete boats efficiently.

  • Perform rework or corrections when necessary to meet Sea Fox quality standards.

  • Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in boat building, marine rigging, outboard motor installation, rub rail installation, automotive mechanics, or a related field required.

  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to understand how mechanical systems work.

  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.

  • Ability to read and follow measurements, specifications, diagrams, and work instructions.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • Good hand-eye coordination and ability to perform precise installation work.

  • Ability to troubleshoot basic mechanical and installation issues.

  • Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a production team.

  • Dependable attendance and a strong work ethic are required.

  • Previous fiberglass or marine manufacturing experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and work in confined or awkward positions for extended periods.

  • Must be able to regularly lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently.

  • Must be comfortable working around boats, production equipment, tools, and machinery.

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may be hot, cold, dusty, noisy, or exposed to fiberglass and chemical odors.

  • Must be able to safely work from ladders, platforms, and elevated work areas when required.

Work Environment

This position is performed in a fast-paced marine manufacturing environment Employees are expected to maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, productivity, and teamwork while meeting production deadlines.

Overtime, weekends, and extended hours may be required based on production needs.
