The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), seeks applicants for a Motor Equipment Mechanic III - Wachusett to perform the following duties:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Incumbents of position in this series works in repairing, overhauling, and servicing fleet vehicles, heavy equipment, tractors, boats, ATVs, UTVs, snowmobiles, landscape equipment; estimate cost of repairs, requisitions and supplies, and keeps records of work done, performs related work as required.
DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Participates in the repairing, overhauling, and servicing fleet vehicles, heavy equipment, tractors, boats, ATVs, UTVs, snowmobiles, and landscape equipment.
2. Adjusts and repairs brakes, carburetors, hydraulic pumps, cylinder heads, valves and similar automotive components.
3. Repair and overhaul equipment of increasing complexity such as bulldozers, backhoes, and other heavy equipment.
4. Performs periodic motor equipment inspections and services for state vehicles by changing and repairing tires, adjusting brakes, replacing fluids, cleaning and lubricating parts.
5. Performs service and repairs on small equipment such as chainsaws, brush saws, line trimmers.
6. Retrieve automotive parts and supplies from vendors. Sign slips, invoices and other documents in a timely manner.
7. Cleans vehicles and equipment including washing, waxing and vacuuming vehicles.
8. Receives shipments and is responsible for contents. Sign slips, invoices and other documents in a timely manner.
9. Login credentials for RTA360. Submit work repairs such as parts, costs and labor costs for all fleet vehicles that are assigned to region.
10. Meets with FOTL and Deputy Regional Director regarding FY purchases of fleet vehicles and heavy equipment needs.
11. Solicit bids from outside vendors for repairs, parts and service.
12. Picks up and returns vehicles for repair and service, ensures work has been completed and in working order.
13. Operates other equipment used in automobile operations and repair such as lifts, jacks and hydraulic testing equipment.

29. Maintains records for the repairs to be completed.
30. Professional Workplace Conduct. Engage in courteous, respectful, and professional behavior with all regional staff while participating collectively with colleagues to foster a team environment:
Attend all staff meetings and participate in a productive and informative manner.
Meet with supervisor regularly and as requested. Present pertinent information, questions, and concerns during supervisory meetings while discussing current work projects and any necessary project adjustments.
Properly inform supervisor of work-related concerns or possible problems that could result in mistakes, conflicts with colleagues, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.
Minimum Entrance Requirements:
Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in the repair, maintenance and overhaul of automotive equipment such as automobiles, trucks, bulldozers, cranes, front end loaders, etc. of which (B) at least one year must have been in a supervisory capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. A certificate or diploma from a recognized trade, technical or vocational school, at the high school level or above, with a major in automotive shop practice may be substitution for one year of the required (A) experience.
Special Requirements: Based on assignment:
1. Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class B Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
2. Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class C or hoisting license.
