  • This person will perform Integrated Mosquito Management techniques throughout Lancaster County which include surveillance, control, and education.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

  • This person will report to the Grounds Superintendent, position #00500293, at the Park location. This person will work closely with the Lebanon and Lancaster County Mosquito-borne Disease Program Coordinator who is not an employee of the County of Lancaster.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Fieldwork, data collection, data entry, and adult mosquito and larval control activities in coordination with the PA Department of Environmental Protection staff
  • Safely operate a pickup truck
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to follow County and Departmental Policies and Procedures

OTHER SPECIFIC TASKS OR DUTIES

  • Repair small motors, when needed
  • Ability to operate a computer to navigate the internet and use Windows platform (Outlook, Excel, Word)
    • Creates, sends, receives, reads, and responds to email
    • Works with a computer daily
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED required; working towards or has obtained a bachelor’s or associate degree or higher; or an equivalent combination of education, experience, in entomology, environmental resource management, biology or closely related field.
  • Experience working outdoors preferred
  • Experience using hand tools preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to acquire and maintain CORE and Category 16 Pesticide Applicator’s License within 60 days of hire
  • Ability to read and understand pesticide labels for application rates and safe handling
  • Ability to read road maps to travel to project collections sites
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work well with minimum supervision
  • Ability to work well alone or with others

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS/CLEARANCES

  • Must have and maintain a valid PA Driver's License with an acceptable driving record in accordance with County policy and submit to driving record background check
  • CORE and Category 16 Pesticide License preferred or the ability to achieve one within 60 days of hire
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to lift 75 pounds to waist height, 50 pounds to shoulder height, and 40 pounds above the head
  • Ability to transport and set up equipment
  • Must be able to navigate uneven terrain for long distances
  • Must be able to navigate and work in heavily wooded and/or wet areas
  • Ability to perform strenuous tasks over extended periods of time
  • Ability to stoop, bend from the waist and reach overhead frequently, and for extended periods of time
  • Must be willing to work outdoors in all types of weather
