Position Title: Food Service Worker

Location:
IU Health Methodist, University, Riley, Fishers, North, and West Hospitals

Employment Type:
Full-time, variable shifts

Schedule Requirements:
This position requires flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including rotating weekends and holidays. Shift pay differentials are available where applicable.

The Food Service Worker plays a vital role in delivering high-quality dining services that support patient care and overall satisfaction. This position is responsible for the preparation, plating, service, and transportation of food and supplies to patients, family members, physicians, team members, and visitors.

The ideal candidate demonstrates a commitment to providing timely, accurate, and courteous service while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, sanitation, and infection prevention. This role also involves the operation of various food service equipment and computer systems to support daily functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, assemble, and serve food in accordance with established guidelines and quality standards
  • Transport meals and supplies to designated areas in a timely and efficient manner
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, and team members
  • Maintain strict adherence to sanitation, cleaning, and infection control protocols to ensure food safety
  • Operate food service equipment and computer systems safely and effectively
  • Follow all organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred
  • No prior experience required; previous food service experience is preferred
  • Ability to safely operate kitchen and food service equipment
  • Strong attention to detail, reliability, and commitment to quality service

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Ability to perform physical tasks including reaching, standing for extended periods, squatting, bending, and lifting
  • Must be able to lift and carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 35 pounds regularly, and up to 80% of the work time
  • Ability to climb ladders as needed
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to gowns, gloves, goggles, and rubber-soled, closed-toe shoes in accordance with safety and regulatory standards

  • Commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and compliant food service environment
  • Responsible for following infection prevention practices to protect patients, staff, and visitors
