Job Description

Position Summary

The Mortgage and Consumer Loan Specialist is responsible for developing new business and originating quality mortgage and home equity products along with other non-real estate loan products in accordance with established Bank policies and procedures. This position will partner with other lines of business to build and grow client relationships, in addition to cross-selling other bank products and services.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Consult with Bank customers and non-customers regarding borrowing needs, negotiate terms and conditions, assist in preparing mortgage and home equity loan applications, and obtain all necessary documentation from applicants.
  • Make verbal and written commitment on behalf of the Bank which includes rate terms, pre-qualification, mortgage or home equity commitment, etc.
  • Complete each loan application and oversee all pre-processing functions in a timely manner to permit the required disclosures to be provided to applicants within the requested time period.
  • Analyze financial and credit information necessary that aligns with underwriting criteria and internal guidelines to ensure loan approvability.
  • Engage in outside opportunities, i.e. calls, open houses, seminars, realtor functions to develop and maintain relationships with realtors, home builders, individual contacts, and other referral sources generating feedback to increase their business relationship with the Bank.
  • Identify customer’s and non-customers’ other financial needs and cross-sell other bank products and services.

Knowledge of:

  • Lending regulations and Bank’s underwriting guidelines and lending policies
  • Loan types and documents

Ability to:

  • Analyze and interpret numerical data
  • Take initiative to maintain the flow of work
  • Perform duties under frequent time pressures

Education and Training:

  • Requires High School diploma.
  • Requires 2 or more years of related lending or operations experience.
  • Previous sales experience is preferred.
  • Pursuant to the Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act (“SAFE Act”), all Home Equity Lenders are required to maintain current registration with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System & Registry (“NMLS”). If such registration is not active as of the hire date, the Home Equity Lender must immediately attain active registration upon employment. Home Equity Lenders who fail to maintain an active and current registration will be unable to originate mortgage loans and may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
  • Requires knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Salary offered is based on factors, including but not limited to, the job duties, required qualifications and relevant experience, and local market trends. The role may be eligible for bonus or incentives based on company and individual performance.
