ABOUT OUR DISTRICT:

The Syracuse City School District is undergoing a new phase of innovation and transformation with the goal of ensuring that all students graduate high school with the skills needed to be ready for college and career. For Syracuse, all means all. The School Board and Syracuse community have charged the Superintendent with improving student achievement, and she is seeking a dedicated and diverse team of educators to partner with her in moving the district toward its goals.

The Syracuse City School District represents 35 schools and programs, including 6 high schools, 6 middle schools, 6 K-8 schools, 13 elementary schools, and 4 alternative education programs, serving approximately 19,000 students Pre-K–12. Of these students, 82.3% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, 20.1% are served by the Office of Special Education, and 83% are students of color.

ABOUT THIS POSITION:
We are looking for experienced Montessori educators who hold a Primary (3-6 year old) certification or an Elementary I (6-9 year old) certification to join our team of dynamic staff who are phasing in the Montessori School at LeMoyne and Delaware Primary. We need someone who can multi-task, collaborate, communicate with colleagues and families, provide behavioral interventions as needed and contribute to the development of what our school has to offer. Maintaining a positive classroom climate and culture is a must. Data collection and analysis from classroom observations and student screening and assessment is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates who hold both NYS and Montessori certificates. Candidates without both will be expected to achieve certification.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Reporting to the principal, the teacher ensures that all their students achieve ambitious academic outcomes. The teacher must effectively:

• Plan data-driven, standards-aligned and differentiated units, lessons and activities;
• Deliver clear, accurate and rigorous lessons with a range of instructional and formative assessment techniques;
• Establish and maintain a supportive, productive and positive learning environment with strong classroom management practices; and
• Monitor and communicate about student progress while engaging in continuous reflection, adjustment and professional development.
• The teacher will perform additional related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Proven experience accelerating measurable student learning in urban schools (preferred)
• Training and or experience with Culturally Relevant Education (preferred)
• Minimum of two years’ successful classroom teaching experience (preferred)
• Prior demonstration of exemplary attendance is expected of any candidate for hire.
• All candidates must possess New York State teacher certification in Montessori Primary (3-6 year old) certification or a Montessori Elementary I (6-9 year old) certification, or qualify to obtain it by the first date of employment. This requires at least a Bachelor’s degree. Licensed teachers from other states may qualify for reciprocity
• Please note that New York State requires a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.5 for certification, and one hired, this proof will be kept on file in the Office of Human Resources.
• Once offered, you will be required to declare that all previous obligations with an employing school district have been met and you are not seeking this position with the intent of resigning from a previous commitment in which you have not served.
• The successful candidate will be required to pass a fingerprint-based background check, at the cost of $102.50 to the candidate.

SALARY/SALARY RANGE:

• Compensation is in accordance with the Unit 1 contractual agreement and ranges from $59,499 to $102,037, based on experience and qualifications.
• Teachers may also have the opportunity to participate in our Summer School Programs, which are compensated at an hourly rate of $45.00.
