of Job Duties:

The Monitor Technician is a trained member of the nursing team within the Telemetry department. Monitor Technicians provide 24/7 telemetry monitoring and observation for inpatients from all disciplines throughout the hospital. The department focus is aiding in identification and prevention of acute medical events by providing monitoring across multiple platforms, and to help ensure our patients receive the highest possible care available. The Telemetry department strives to maintain the most updated evidence-based practices and equipment needed to facilitate our goals. Monitor Technicians are an integral part of the multidisciplinary team approach we implement at UAMS.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED, PLUS Six (6) months direct patient care related experience

  • PCT certified within three (3) months of hire (training provided)

  • Must pass the dysrhythmia course and maintain competency as a telemetry technician

  • Must have excellent communication skills, ability to follow oral instructions, basic computer skills, strong work ethic, and accountability

  • Must be able to lift 100 pounds

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified as a nursing assistant or military corpsman

  • Current BLS

  • Certification in the EKG or Dysrhythmia course

  • Microsoft Office experience

  • EPIC EMR

  • Kronos


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Observes the telemetry patients and patients on cardiac monitor display screens, documents, and reports changes/abnormalities in the patients’ cardiac rhythm

  • Maintains patient report log

  • Cleans telemetry transmitters after each patient use; maintains a clear electrocardiogram signal, and problem-solves interferences of patterns

  • Runs a rhythm strip per patient at the beginning of each shift

  • Monitors patients in the ICU by closed-circuit camera for unsafe behavior

  • Enters all patient information in the computer as well as on the charge sheet

  • Performs other duties as assigned
