GENERAL SUMMARY
Works under the supervision of a Nurse Manager. The Monitor Tech/Clinical Assistant's primary job function is to perform general duties for the department, supports each strategic value by providing excellent care to those we serve The Clinical Assistant/Monitor Tech may perform a variety of basic patient care activities in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
• High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
• Clerical vocational training preferred
• Successfully completes SOMC Arrhythmia competency upon hire
Licensure:
• BLS within 90 days of hire required
Experience:
• Previous secretarial experience preferred.
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
1. Monitors cardiac rhythm by means of telemetry and/or hardware.
2. Interprets and identifies rhythms.
3. Reports variances and life threatening arrhythmias to appropriate nurse.
4. Assists with applying telemetry and replacing batteries on telemetry patients.
5. Welcomes and greets those coming on the unit.
6. Enters and updates Vocera staff assignment.
7. Serves as a resource for others in using CPOE.
8. Assists with data entry/order entry as needed.
9. Functions as a communications source for the nursing unit.
10. Assists with maintaining department correspondence.
11. Gathers and distributes department mail as needed.
12. Answers, screens, and refers incoming calls and visitors, and responds to general inquiries and proper documentation.
13. Assists with ordering/stocking of department office supplies.
14. Prepares various reports as required.
15. Assists with maintaining department related records, files, and manuals; handling significant volumes of confidential data.
16. Copies various reports and records.
17. Maintains patient environment and performs routine cleaning tasks in nursing unit/patient rooms.
18. Observes patients and reports unusual conditions and/or reactions to the nurse.
19. Assists with admissions, discharge, and transfer of patients.
20. Answers call lights and responds to patient needs.
21. Documents according to policy.
22. Schedules patient follow-up appointments as needed.
23. Monitors patient movement by means of a camera and a panel of monitors
24. Reports patient movement and attempts to fall.
25. Assists with rounding on difficult patients or providing 1:1 care for suicidal or difficult to manage patients
26. Enters and updates patient data and guardrails into the Care View system promptly
27. Reports alarms to appropriate staff member
28. Responds to patients in need through the Care View Monitoring System.
29. Performs other duties as assigned.
