Reporting to the Nursing Director, this position supports the unit by coordinating communications, performing order entry functions, maintaining files, providing clerical support, and monitoring cardiac rhythms at central station.
1. Applies the principles of the SRRMC mission statement.
2. Demonstrates knowledge of and adheres to all applicable professional/regulatory practices, state/federal regulations and SRRMC policies and procedures.
3. Protects hospital resources through appropriate and careful use of supplies and equipment.
4. Performs routine clerical duties accurately and according to written policies and procedures and standards of care including, but not limited to: (1) admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths, (2) managing phone calls appropriately and recording/communicating messages accurately in a timely manner, (3) maintaining all required reports, department-specific records, and (4) entering all charges.
5. Maintains accurate, up-to-date medical records. Places identifying patient information in appropriate location. Maintains charts in neat chronological order and ensures that information is current, correct, and legible.
6. Transcribes physician orders accurately, notifying team members of any STAT orders.
7. Performs clerical duties related to admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths.
8. Receives and handles phone calls appropriately. Records and communicates messages accurately and in a timely manner.
9. Maintains all required reports, department specific records and enters charges appropriately.
10. Ensures adequate and accurate inventory of unit related stock supplies and forms; processes requisitions for supplies and equipment in a timely and cost-effective manner.
11. Practices Standard Precautions when providing patient and hospital services.
12. Responds promptly and appropriately to patient call lights or requests, referring patient needs to appropriate staff.
13. Demonstrates the ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations and follows established emergency procedures and practices.
14. Assures that the rights of all patients are respected and maintained by allowing for privacy, confidentiality and dignity in the provision of service.
15. Understands and utilizes appropriate medical terminology and approved abbreviations and symbols.
Minimum Education:
High school graduate or equivalent
Completed an approved EKG/ Monitor Tech course, or equivalent
Minimum Experience/Skills:
Recent one (1) year Telemetry monitor experience required;
Minimum one (1) year of experience as unit secretary in similar department preferred;
Knowledge of medical terminology;
Basic computer knowledge, such as word processing, spreadsheet.
Licenses/Certificates/Credentials:
Current BLS certification for Healthcare Providers (AHA certified)
